Always stay here and usually in room 5 or 7 and never any problem with smell or anything else. Charlie and his wife are great.

I go to this hotel every year, because it takes pets. However, you would know the hotel take pets by merely stepping into Room #5. It wreaked from the urine!

The hotel is not well kept, but the people upfront are friendly........I've never bothered to use the pool, so I can't tell much about it. I think the rooms are a bit outdated, the beds are okay, the bathroom was moldy. I paid 100 bucks during the weekend so I am not sure it's much of a bargin like the other people claim it to be.

I think my biggest grip was the fact that I had to use a huge wooden box to block the aircondition vent. The vents are located below and you can't really close them off or turn them off with switch for that matter. The only way to avoid having cold air being blowin in your room is to physically block it with a wodden box........no joke.

We spent one night here on our mission to try apple pies in Julian and explore the wild flowers in Anza Borrego State Desert Park nearby. We needed a dog friendly location, ruling out the Bed and Breakfasts that are prevalent in Julian. Just FYI, outside of working hours (8 or 9 am to 7ish pm) there’s no-one on the reservation line. The property is just off the highway on the way into Julian. Reception was friendly. Our room was spacious and nicely decorated for a roadside motel. Bathroom was fine with a heat lamp. Toilet could have used a little more flush power, but I guess that’s why there was a plunger. No wireless internet. There was some roadside noise, but the hotel was by the road. Not too problematic as traffic diminished at night. There was a nice looking pool, but it was closed for the season. Plenty of grass for walking the dog plus nice country roads just a block in either direction. Julian was just 5 miles up the road. Anza Borego was about an hour away given the curvy, hilly roads – great drives, either of the two possible routes! The proprietor of the hotel recommended some pie places in town that were excellent. The adjacent restaurant (Jeremy’s on the Hill was great for Sunday Brunch and I was told by the hotel owner that dinners and pie was good there too). We tried the Pizza place across the street for dinner (Wildflowers or something) – nice people, very friendly and live music. My wife complained to me all night that the mattress was too hard – mind you, I didn’t mind and it was no where near as hard as mattresses in China! Still, bring your own pillow and be aware that the mattress may be hard. No remote for TV but we didn’t come to veg. out. I’d come back – it’s dog friendly, inexpensive for Julian (like $89) and in a beautiful part of the state. Plus it’s really too far to make day trips out of Julian or Anza Borrego if coming from Los Angeles.

We stayed at the Apple Tree for 2 nights and would rate this an excellent facility for the money. Charlie is the owner/proprietor and was most helpful and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. Room was large, very clean, comfortable beds, great shower/bath combo with plenty of hot water! Swimming pool is small, but clean and sparkling.
The new restuarant next door is Jeremy's....fantastic!!! There were 6 of us; all ordered something different and everybody was happy with both the food, the friendly service, ambience, etc. The presentation of the food is way beyond what you would expect in this "out of the way" location.

Great place to get away for the week-end! Nice pool and shady areas for those hot days of summer. Rooms were quaint with beamed ceilings and country quilts. Bathrooms were clean and functional. Great location. 2 restaurants , one next door and 1 across street with nice variety of foods; antique store, Chocolate Factory and Winery within walking distance. Lots of hiking trails nearby with 2 lakes for fishing. Management very friendly and helpful. I definately will go back.

I dont get the other reviews of this motel...did we stay at the same place???
The lady at checkin seemed nice enough, however thats where any similarities end. I didnt expect much, but to be totally honest this motel was probably the most basic, tired, outdated hotel we have ever stayed in across the USA. Admittedly it was the only property still available for a last minute booking as we wanted to experience the Julian Tree Lighting ceremony (which by the way, was quite nice but certainly not recommended to overseas guests or people travelling way out of their way). Our room was so old fashioned but not in a quaint way. The bed was really uncomfortable and lined with some sort of plastic cover underneath the fitted sheet that made you sweat all night (and it was a cold night). The bathroom had cracked tiles and walls that had been "patched up"with two inch thick polyfill. We wouldnt recommend this hotel to anyone.
