An ad for Julian actually came up in my Travel/Leisure magazine. We had walked in the tiny town of Julian before, but never knew about the mine tour. It's a little confusing, as on your way to Julian, you see a mine cart which announces a ride and think this is it. In fact, while in Julian and going up the big hill to get there, you see the mine cart again and expect a ride when you actually get there. The tour guide actually told us of the somewhat fraud that is going on with this. This review is about the mine tour on C Street.

It's $10. for adults and $5. for children. We were a party of eight and all thought it was worth it; it lasts about an hour and is informative and fun. They did advertise restrooms on the premises. Wear comfortable shoes, as you are walking in an actual gold mine, which is dimly lit, on dirt and sidestepping the mine rail track. You have to duck in some parts and climb one ladder. They have made the tour family friendly and it is both in/out of the mine.

The guide we had was so well versed and able to answer any question with a wealth of information. At the end, he shows you how they panned for gold, which is a great interactive activity for kids. What a great way to capture the mining town of Julian and what it was like back then!

I was in San Diego visiting family and we decided to head to Julian for the day. Julian is a cool town in its own right, but we had seen a sign for a gold mine tour so we decided to check it out. When we pulled in we saw all these old classic cars rusting away which totally added to the character and charm of the place and made you feel as if you were stepping back in time. The mine itself is pretty neat. You get to see how mining was done back in the day with candles and chisels, tons of hard work. I definitely recommend a visit if you are heading to Julian, its not far from the center of town so stop on by.

This is a great tour for old and young alike. Seeing the inside of an old working mine gives you a sense of what it was like to work in these conditions. The tour guide was a wealth of information. This is not a 'sleek and polished' attraction so don't go expecting that. Just roll with it and let your kids explore a little and learn what the past was like.

I had never done a gold mine tour so found this very interesting. Only four of us on the tour so felt like we could take our time taking photos. Very laid back guide but informative at the same time.

We picked this tour based on the TA reviews and i'm glad we did. There were 3 adults and 3 teens and we all really enjoyed the tour. I especially liked our guide's voice and manner - he seemed really friendly and approachable and not at all "hoaky". He clearly knew what he was talking about. The walking route is flat except for one up stairway and it is dimly lit and feels safe but also exciting. They have restrooms which you should use before you start the tour. It was so cold out that we did not enjoy the gold panning afterwards since the water was cold and our hands were freezing - I would suggest going during warmer weather if possible, but I heartily recommend the experience if you've never seen a gold mine before.
