This inn was so welcoming after miles of sand and mountain driving. We were able to choose our room, which was small, but well-appointed. The public areas were particularly charming with plenty of games and books available. The tea and the breakfast, both included, were delicious. Julian apples topped the French toast. The hotel, originally owned by an African American family, is just one of the fascinating buildings in town. A true respite!

This is a great historical area, and hotel once owned in the late 1800's by the Robinsons, an African American family living in the town of Julian, which holds many distinctions, including having had at one time the largest census amount of African Americans, including some of the city's founders, in the county, and one of the furthest south gold booms in all of California. Gorgeous exterior steps from the main street, warm, lovingly decorated interior lobby, excellently appointed rooms, and a delicious home made breakfast made for a happy experience for us. We stayed here on our honeymoon night, and couldn't have asked for a nicer time. The staff was congratulatory, and friendly. We love Julian, and are so happy to have shared this memory there.

My husband and I decided to tag on an extra stop in Julian to our vacation. We called a few hotels in the area the night before and found that for just a few dollars more we could stay at the Julian Hotel and have a REAL breakfast rather than just a continental. It ended up being even more of a great value than we first realized! We stayed in a little room that faced outward to the front porch and it was super cute, clean and smelled good. The bed was delightfully comfortable and plush. Though there weren't the usual amenities of a hotel in the room (ice bucket, mini fridge etc.) when I went to ask the staff, they gave me real wine glasses, an ice bucket and ice to use. There was an afternoon tea time that we went to and had some tea, coffee and cookies while playing a game of checkers. We were undoubtedly the youngest people there by about 30-40 years, but we don't care about that sort of thing…we found it kind of funny! :) The best part about the stay was the ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS BREAKFAST! It started with a bowl of homemade granola and milk, then the main course of eggs florentine with fresh fruit and yogurt and homemade date bread. It was seriously the best breakfast I've had in a hotel by far!! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was the lack of TV in the rooms. I don't watch a ton of TV, but Julian doesn't have any night life and TV's in the room would have been nice. We found a way though…because they have free WiFi we were able to watch Amazon Prime video on our laptop! Fantastic overall experience and I highly recommend!

We had a nice experience here. I took my husband here for the night on Father's Day. We had an upstairs room. I read reviews and expected it to be small. It was very small...room 4. The hotel staff were very nice. The scones and cookies at tea time were good. Breakfast was delicious! I loved the little parlor area with plenty of games to play.

My husband and I , on the spur of the moment, decided to stay here versus going to a brand hotel in San Diego. I am so glad we did! What a wonderful, relaxing place! The staff was so hospitable, helpful, friendly and welcoming. The room was quaint and beautifully decorated. It was exceptionally clean! We had a second floor bedroom with a view of the back patio area. Though the hotel is a historic place, and it is very well maintained. It is located on the Main Street, in the heart of Julian. The breakfast was incredible: 2 course meal with homemade granola, then French toast with Julian apples plus cut-up fruit. They were even able to accommodate my husband's special dietary needs. It was a great place to relax, and so glad we did!

Room Tip: We stayed in room #8 which is by the back stairway to the patio. It was very quiet, and we even sle...

My girlfriend and I stayed here Memorial Day weekend. The location can't be beat, right in the heart of town and no more than a few minutes walk to everything. The rooms are small but very well appointed and cozy. We didn't have any ghostly encounters lol. Breakfast and tea time were well done and the board games were a fun touch. Wonderful place to get away from it all.

We can only confirm all the positive reviews. We stayed in one of the 2nd floor rooms; it was small, but comfortable enough for a 1 night stay (the bathroom was nice). After exploring the quaint shops of Julian (including a delicious slice of apple pie), we spent the rest of the evening in the parlor of the hotel. We appreciated the afternoon tea and the good breakfast.
