“We were delighted with our stay”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

We just spent 3 nights here. Our first time in the June Lake area. We are avid day hikers, and this location is paradise for that activity. We did Parker Lake (jaw dropping setting and easy day hike), and Walker Lake/Bloody Canyon up to Lower Sardine Lake (not for the unfit, major elevation gain over short distance, but jaw great views back down to Walker Lake and Mono Lake from the summit). Over the last 15 years we have hiked in much of the Yosemite Valley and surrounding Southern Yosemite/Ansel Adams Wilderness area (e.g. Vernal Falls, Panorama Trail, Four Mile Trail to Glacier Point, etc.) and we found the mountains in this June Lake area very worthy rivals of those areas. And without the crowds!!!

We found the Double Eagle enjoyable in all respects. Their web site photos do not do justice, in our opinion, to the stunning setting and backdrop of the mountains behind the resort. The grounds were lovely. We stayed in a Resort Room. It was spacious, with well sized bath with jacuzzi tub and separate rain shower. There were a couple minor maintenance issues we found on checking in, nothing major, and all were promptly resolved the next day when we pointed them out to staff.

We had dinner on site one night, and ate 3 breakfasts there. All the food was good, and wait staff were prompt, courteous, and very helpful for us in accommodating our vegetarian palates with some tweaks on standard menu items.

We did not use the Spa facility, but it looked outstanding. The fitness center is a fully equipped workout site, essentially a commercial fitness facility. As major gym rats we were delighted to find that we could get full workouts in had we chosen to do so.

Special thanks to staffers Dena, Jessica, Chris (great recommendation on the June Lake Brewery Brown Ale), and breakfast server David.

We feel we only scratched the surface of the potential of this June Lake area for our outdoor desires. With a facility like this right in the heart of it all, we will most certainly return.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor level Resort Room. Upstairs neighbors one night sounded like a herd of elepha...

Let me start by saying this may have been the one day of the year when things weren't perfect at the Double Eagle, BUT, after receving the keys and a little bag of cookies (nice touch) from the desk clerk, we headed to the room to discover a variety of things that didn't fit in with the price we were paying:
- the coffee pot hadn't been cleaned, and although we are aware that clients should do their own washing up this should have been checked before new clients checked in,
- there was a grid (air extraction?) in the toilet that should have been flush with the floor but wasn't, it looked like it was about to disappear in the floor instead and might cause a foot injury if someone was to use the toilet in a half-awake condition at night,
- the toilet roll was almost empty (might be a detail for some, not for me),
- the people who occupied the room before us probably had a bout of tourista, we mightn't have known had the feces in the toilet been cleaned,
- the fridge in that room was the loudest fridge I ever had to listen to instead of sleeping. It hummed like a plane about to take off, turning itself on and off at regular 10 minutes intervals, until I finally drifted off to sleep at around 4am,
- at ten to midnight we (those of us asleep) were woken up by a very shrill alarm.

When we left in the morning we mentioned all of the above to the young lady working at the desk. She didn't know what the alarm was, and her reply to each problem was, strangely enough, "thanks"!! She was totally untrained to deal with complaints and although I am sure this place is very nice most of the time, I'm afraid it didn't leave a lasting impression on us, far from it.

Again, if we had paid half of what the night cost us you wouldn't have heard a peep from us, but for more than $230 you expect a bit more.

The area and the setting however are absolutely stunning, obviously!

We deeply apologize for the low standard of cleanliness you experienced during your stay with us. This is not the standard that we normally provide for our customers and again, we are sorry your stay was not 5 stars.

Thank you for bringing these maintenance issues to light - we appreciate when our guests let us know when something needs attention. These have been dealt with.

The shrill alarm you heard in the middle of the night is our volunteer fire department's alarm that signals an emergency- there is not too much we can do about that one, but we are sorry it woke you up!

Again, please accept our apology for your sub-standard stay. If you choose to stay with us again, we hope to wow you.

I have never felt more deceived by a location's web site than this place. I always understood that a resort (as opposed to a motel/hotel) provides resources and activities that you can enjoy on site. And this place advertises on its web site a long list of activiites - horse back riding, boating, mountain biking, etc. - none of which are available at the "resort". They have a shop for fly fishing; it has been closed for years. They have hiking trails that are in disrepair. This is a run down expensive motel, with cramped rooms, and unhelpful staff who - when asked about the activities - point you to a rack of brochures. And don't go after Yosemite - the area is a big letdown after the grandeur of Yosemite. I see no reason to go to this place. Wi Fi unavailble in the rooms

Room Tip: Don't go

Thank you for the feedback, we really appreciate your perspective. We feel that a resort can be called such when it has a restaurant and a full spa and fitness center as well as lodging.

While we do not have horseback riding, hiking trails, boating, and mountain biking trails on our property, our property is surrounded by National Forest land that is managed by the Federal Government. We advertise these activities because they are all within the June Lake loop, which is a wonderful place for vacationing!

We do apologize that our front desk staff was not more helpful in aiding you in planning your outside activities. Again, thank you for your helpful feedback!

Double Eagle Resort exceeded all our expectations. The mountain decor is charming. Our room was nicely furnished in the mountain motif. It was very clean with fantastic views of the mountains and pond. The large bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub and a rain shower head. We could see a waterfall on the side of the mountain from the bathroom window. The Reception area has tall windows, comfortable seating and a large fireplace. We ate in the dining room for dinner and breakfast. The food was good, not great, but the room has ceiling to floor windows with a view in every direction. Another evening we ate in the bar. The bar is small but we much preferred our dinner there. The service was superior to the dining room and the bar had much more ambience. The bar menu is interesting and you can order from the dining room menu, if you wish. We shared several of the menu items. We highly recommend the fish tacos and the nachos. Happy Hour is from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM and does not include wine. During our two day stay we were not able to take advantage of fitness classes. There were many and are included in the price of the room. With the perfect setting, spa, pool, classes and the attractions in the area who needs WiFi?

Room Tip: Choose the second floor for more privacy and minimal noise.

Thank you for the feedback regarding your preference of the bar over the restaurant for dinner. Next time hopefully you can make it to some of the fitness classes - they are excellent if we do say so ourselves!

This is a very special resort. The forest and mountain backdrop are stunning. The rooms and cabins are a pleasant surprise. The buildings look rustic in a classy way. Enter your room, and Wow! Large, light, airy, very clean and all the conveniences you could want. Our deck was 4 feet from a beautiful pond. The resident pair of ducks would come to our deck and beg in a most charming way. The restaurant is wonderful. Really amazing food and a great staff. The spa experience is on par with Pebble Beach (really!). Every staff member at this resort had a smile, which says a lot about the management.
A truly wonderful, relaxing experience at bargain rates. We look forward to returning for a longer stay.

Room Tip: Near the pond!

Perfect, lovely resort, cabins are superb, large, roomy and so clean. The restaurant is also recommended. The setting and views are unbelievable. Wifi is almost non existent in the rooms, but good in the reception area. They warned us of bears, mountain lions and cay others in the area when we checked in and wrongly assumed they were rarely seen. Wrong! A young (but large) bear wandered around outside our room next morning. Amazing but a bit scarey. Recommend this place.

Room Tip: Poor wifi, but ask for a room overlooking the pond

We apologize for the poor WIFi. We are always working on ways to improve our "mountain WiFi," and hopefully will have it going at a "city-speed" soon!

On another note - glad you got to view some of our local wildlife! So neat!

They allowed me to check in a little early. Setting is in the woods, on a creek and quiet. The pond is a nice touch. Outdoor fire pit was very nice too. Didn't eat at the restaurant, but the menu looked great. The spa is amazing and all the staff was very friendly. We had a small cabin (#119) and it was cozy but roomy. A little pricey overall but well worth it and to spoil yourself. Definately THE place to stay near June Lake.
