We stayed here recently for three nights and were very happy with our choice. While it isn't located right in downtown Kernville, it is only a few miles up the canyon. It took us only five minutes to drive into town for restaurants. The motels in town look nice, but they aren't as remote as their website photos make them appear. Most are right on the road. Sequoia Lodge is on the highway, but the rooms are in a line that stretches back to the banks of the Kern River. You can't get much closer without falling in. The grounds are pleasant with lots of cute decorations, homemade wind chimes, etc. There are several patios and BBQs for guests to use, plus a fish cleaning shed. Everything was kept immaculately clean by the resident managers, Pat and Keith.

Speaking of Pat and Keith, they could not possibly have been any more hospitable. Pat welcomed us and even came over to be sure our room was OK after we checked in. Both of them were readily available to answer questions. Honestly, in all of my travels, they were the most genuinely sincere people I've ever met running a motel. They care for the place like it is their own and truly want to do everything they can to make your time with them special.

We were in room 17, which apparently is the most popular. It hangs over the bank of the river, so you have views on three sides, plus a little porch with chairs to sit out and enjoy the sound of the river. They have arranged a nice area between the motel and the river with paths and several places to sit. You can easily wander down the steps right to the river for fishing or just sitting on the rocks or the provided benches and chairs.

The room was comfortable with two queen beds, an electric faux fire stove for ambience, a small kitchenette area with a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker, plus basic utensils and dishes. The bathroom was tiny, but clean and functional. The only thing I didn't like was the horrible water-saving showerhead that was the most restrictive I've ever experienced and I'm a native Californian who is used to saving water. Other than that, no complaints at all. The amenities are basic, so bring your own hairdryer. If you are staying more than one night, you'll probably be happier with your own soap and shampoo, but they do provide small packets that are OK for a night or two. The towels were clean and fluffy. Bed linens were quite nice and the beds were comfortable. The A/C worked fine and there was a ceiling fan, as well. We didn't really need the A/C in late October...opening the windows brought in plenty of fresh air. Wi-fi is free, but the room we were in had a weak signal. We had to go outside to get it to connect, but after that it stayed connected with no further problem.

The thing that impressed us most about Kernville is how friendly the locals are. There is a general store across the street where you can buy basic groceries and get a cooked-to-order breakfast or lunch. The shopkeepers were beyond friendly. In town, there are several good restaurants where the service was again extremely welcoming and friendly. We'd go back to this town because of that alone, but there is plenty to do in the area. It takes about an hour to drive up to the Giant Sequoias, plus there is boating and fishing in nearby Lake Isabella, river rafting, fishing, hiking, etc.

I chose this motel because it was the only one where they take reservations online. The two other places I considered didn't even return my emails. However, I am so glad we ended up here. I couldn't have been happier with my choice.

Room Tip: Room 17 is the one to get, but this is a small place so you are never far from the river. #14-17 ar...

We broke our trip between Oakhurst and Las Vegas by staying here. We arrived later than we would have liked but the welcome was good and the room we were given was fine, if a tiny bit small for us, but it wasn't a problem. The room was clean. tidy with all the usual facilities. The lodge is quite obviously a fishing lodge catering for guests to fish the river which runs at the bottom of the property. Across the road from the lodge is a well stocked store, the owners are so welcoming and you can eat in or buy stuff to take back to your room. We choose to eat in and wasn't disappointed at all, in fact the store owner give us some of her home grown tomatoes to take away with us and tasty they were too. If your not a fisherman I am not sure the lodge is the place to stay for an extended period, purely an observation. The countryside around the lodge is stunning and shouldn't be missed. Finally I have to say the air con is very noisy and in order to sleep we actually turned it off during the night.

Room Tip: The lodge is not a big place so you choose your room by cost, they all are well located.

We chose this lodge for our anniversary to get away and relax. The area has beautiful scenery and great fishing. The lodge is owned by a husband and wife team who are very nice. They upgraded our room, even though it was labor day weekend, for the price of the regular room since it was our anniversary. The property has bbqs and a place to eat with friends outside. They have a fish cleaning station so if you catch fish you can clean and bbq them right there. If you go to the back of the property and down some stairs, you are ON THE RIVER and it is a great place to fish or relax. Our room had a mini fridge, sink, microwave and coffee maker.

The only draw backs we had were that they do not have a hair dryer and I would bring my own soap. The other thing is housekeeping didn't refill our coffee and coffee condiments. They also didn't really CLEAN but straightened up and made the bed. We used coffee cups that they took but did not replace. There were 4 so the next day after we used the other 2 those were left there dirty with no replacements so I had to wash them. The coffee pot wasn't cleaned or the coffee filter removed. Other than that, it is a clean place and the bed was comfortable. A little bit of road noise in the morning, but quiet at night.

Room Tip: If you want a balcony that looks out to the river, Room 17 would be the one.

Room 17 & Room 1. My favs! The service is fantastic. There is a small store with anything you need right across the road. Resteraunt too if you don't want to go far. You can even get breakfast in the small store. The river is only fifty steps from the lodge. Fishing, tubing, gold panning or just hanging out in the sun. Keith has done a fantastic job on the walkways to the river. There are benches and tables to sit at in the shade. Stone paths to the river with quaint little signs to the Corona Beach bench. :) The natural plants are all manicured like an English Garden. Beautiful ! Pat and Keith are both wonderful ! This was our second visit. We stayed for a week and I didn't want to leave. I can't wait to go back!

Stayed at Sequoia Lodge to take the family river rafting at lower Kernville in Lake Isabella. The facility was very nice! The rooms were spacious, clean and well decorated. I was surprised that it was nicer than some of the big city chain hotels. The staff was very nice. Great location. About a 20 min. drive to Lake Isabella and a mini-market across the street with pretty much everything you need. 3 miles to Kernville and you have to eat at the Pizza Barn.. the whole family loved it.. Best pizza!!! You can walk right to the back of the hotel to the river. Perfect location.
