“A Real Surprise & Worth Stopping By”
Reviewed 29 June 2013

My husband and I were in town overnight on business and decided to stop by the Kern Valley Museum since it was near our motel. We were surprised to find that the museum is larger than it initially appears and contains many interesting collections both indoors and outside in the back. The friendly docents are knowledgeable on area history and eager to share information. We ended up spending a little over an hour looking through all the artifacts and information on display, as well as talking to the staff. The best part is that the museum is free! I highly recommend that you stop by.

“Wonderful valley history”
Reviewed 22 April 2013

This museum is terrific. It is completely run by volunteers and the docents we met ( Cindy, Gene, Mary) were friendly, informed and helpful. Museum itself is beautifully maintained. Will visit again.

“Must Visit!”
Reviewed 20 April 2013

In order for one to understand the history of the small town of Kernville and the surrounding area you must check out what this museum has to offer. You will be happy that you did! So much to see and learn about as well as the opportunity to meet some of the locals that run the establishment with extra care.

“A gem of info”
Reviewed 17 September 2012

This place looks tiny from the outside, but it is packed with great stuff. It has a very thorough history of the immediate area, and good general history of the entire Kern area. They have several artifacts from native cultures there, a great collection of memoribilia from the hundreds of movies filmed there, and interesting hands on items from early settlement days to modern railroad times. The only unfortunate thing is the open hours, although it's much better in the summer. Definite favorite of ours.
