“Good hotel in a good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014 via mobile

The Coolabah is a very pleasant hotel in a good location. It's about a five minute walk to the beach and to Pub Street, and less than that to the Golden Lions, Sihanoukville Square, and the restaurant row along Serendipity Beach Road.

Rooms are large and bright. Staff is very good. There is a small pool, and a restaurant, the Outback Bar & Bistro.

Plumbing can be spotty, and electricity may fail now and then, both these problems being municipal rather than hotel-specific.

Basically the hotel is close enough to the beach action and nightlife venues when you want to do anything, but far enough away to make for quiet nights and restful sleep.

The restaurant is particularly notable on Sundays, when they serve a full roast dinner for 6$

Stayed at the Coolabah Hotel for 3 nights, the location is quite good, staff were very friendly and helpful, ate at the restaurant most of the time as the food was good both Khmer and Western, thought there was a spark missing at the hotel and we stayed in a superior terrace room you had to climb up 3 sets of stairs to get to them.

This hotel is located quite close to the Lion circle and just 8 minutes walk from the beach. Just a few minutes walk from the place where all buses terminate to Sihanoukville.
Good clean rooms. Fresh linen and towels replenished everyday. However the minibar is not stocked ( only a bottle of water) . You would usually expect a couple of beers or so in such good grade hotels.
The food was good. not very exceptional. In case you wish to have great food ( local or international), I would recommend the SANDAN restaurant which is located just 8 minutes walk from the hotel. This is run by a non profit organization training local youth in the restaurant trade. However I must admit, the food matches international standards with low priced local rates.
The hotel has a pool. But you can call it more of a dip pool as it is so small that I could cover it in just 5 walking strides.
The rooms are not equipped with writing table.... of course you do not expect the same in a leisure hotel. Therefore not suited for business travellers.
The hotel is owned by a Russian lady who speaks fluent English. So get in touch with her in case you need assistance on local aspects. The locals understand only bits and pieces of English. The owner was great in helping us out on many occasions.
The hotel staff is great and always at your service.
However one point of setback was that my colleague travelling with me encountered bed bugs in his room and was unable to sleep the whole night.
My room was fine and maintained as per international standards.

Room Tip: If you are a pool lover, take rooms adjoining the pool. Walk out of your room and exactly 3 steps in...

I got the suite for one night. The room was ok, but only a fan in the main room. The AC was in the bedroom. The bathroom was huge, but the shower was tiny. But for $48 a night it was fine. Close walk to the beach, mini mart, and restaurants.

We stayed in Coolabah for 2 nights after returning from Koh Rong Samloem. The room was nice and clean with all the usual amenities. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We also ate in the restaurant twice and really enjoyed the food and service. We can thoroughly recommend Coolabah.

We stayed here 2 nights due to Otres beach having no accomodation.
The hotel itself is average, nothing is terrible but nothing is fantastic either, compared to the rest of cambodia it is also on the higher priced side.

Our room was big and everything worked (-dodgy tv reception), our room was next to the pool which was very handy, the pool was very clean but also warmer than a bath which can't be helped.

The beach is about a 5 minute walk but defintely not worth the walk, it was very dirty, full of sellers, and doesn't have a very nice atmosphere. Otres beach about 15/20 tuk tuk ride is amazing in comparison

Room Tip: Room 4 was nice
