“Wonderful rest after long day of travel”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

After the 10+ hour journey from Koh Chang it was wonderful to arrive at this immaculate and friendly hotel ($3 from bus station, about 10 min journey on tuk tuk).
Spacious, bright rooms. Very friendly staff and clientele. Restaurant menu features European/British Isles cuisine, no Khmer. However, the owner/cook takes pride in what he serves and does an excellent job of it - very tasty.
Pros: clean, friendly, gay clientele (can let your hair down).
Cons: Not near a beach $12 (return) tuk tuk to Otres beach.
No close restaurants if you want to have Cambodian cuisine.

Many guests enjoy going to the beach for the day (there's plenty of places which allow you to use their lounge chairs) and return to the hotel for the evening.

Staying in a hotel away from most 'things' might not be for all. However, the owner makes certain that his guests feel welcome, and does his best to help guests relax and enjoy their stay in the area. At the very least, book two nights for when you first arrive, get some rest from your trip, then decide if it's your cup of tea.

Cheers is a little oasis in the crazy city of Sihanoukville, far enough from the beaches and the backpacker guest houses, but within a short tuk tuk ride of downtown and the sea when you feel like it. The hotel is pristine; everything is kept spotless and tidy. The pool is huge for a hotel this size, and the rooms spacious and comfortable. The bar is a great place to spend an evening and Les's music video collection is inexhaustible. Dancing is encouraged. The staff are wonderful and seem like friends on first meeting.

Nothing prepared me for my two nights in Cheers. Les's website does not give much away, and I had some preconceived incorrect notions of what I might expect. What a joy then to be met by so many happy people and smiling faces, always on hand to assist, advise or just to talk to. The hotel has splendid facilities and is extremely well maintained and cleaned. I seriously could find nothing wrong. Then there are the boys. Friendly, obliging and all stunning. The town was also a very pleasant surprise. Contrary to what I had heard, the beaches were all clean and all beautiful. This hotel is highly highly recommended and I for one will be back at the earliest opportunity.

Room Tip: Cant really comment on the rooms generally, all I can sat is that mine was superb.

This is my second visit to Cheers. Last year it was five days and I had a splendid time. This year it was 16 days during September. This was due to a change of schedule and I asked Les, the owner if I could come early. This was arranged and I had a very enjoyable time. The location I find okay. You are away from down town which is good, you don't get tourists wandering in for a look. A tuk tuk costs 2usd, a motor bike 1usd to downtown area. You can hire a reliable tuk tuk for about 12usd for the day to visit for example the excellent beaches. The swimming pool is excellent. The rooms are of a high standard. Daryl the chef knows what he is doing. The staff are local and at times do a dancing show which is good entertainment.

Room Tip: If you like swimming and will use the pool a lot stay on the ground floor.

After cycling from Kampot to Shianoukville , I arrived with a flat tire. They had been waiting for me , and did not expect me coming on a bicycle. I made my booking the night before. Staff was very friendly, cleaned my bike and later on, one of them went to a local shop and got my tire patched up for only 1 USD.

Les the owner is a great guy with a bit of a spicy tongue before his morning coffe :) He takes good care of his guest and his staff, and made this stay my most fun in Cambodia by now.

Rooms was big, very clean and great bed. The swimming pool is also spacious, clean and refreshing. I was supposed to stay there 2 days, but I had such a great time there, so I stayed 5 nights. instead.

Food was very good, delicious burger , fab drinks! Coming back for more soon :)

spent six nights at Cheers. The rooms are lovely, clean good amenities. the pool is lovely but the grounds are mostly just concrete. Nice linens, but he has a price list if you want extra towels, pillows, or a beach towel. breakfast is not included

The location is totally inconvenient. Cheers is located on the airport road outside of town. it is about 5km from the beaches and 3km from the center of town. you cannot walk anywhere from this hotel. for the same price you can get better quality down near the beach and all the restaurants.

The biggest problem is the owner, he is obnoxious and asks sexually inappropriate questions and seems to be interested in getting you to hire his employees for personal service, I cannot go into more details on this site as to actually what was asked as it was very explicit and totally inappropriate.

Famous words of Lincoln and Lydgate – “…you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.

You stayed here 6 nights, if it was so bad why didn’t you leave earlier?
Car parking area, bar & restaurant areas are usually concrete or should I make them glass, grass or some other more suitable material?
All extra charges & breakfast included or not are all clearly visible before booking.

The location is totally convenient for 98% of our guests, as it is quiet & private, many of our customers do go walking from here & the others don’t begrudge a few dollars to the local poor people for a very short tuk tuk ride.

In our price range you will not find better quality accommodation, near the beach or elsewhere in this city, we also have the cleanest kitchen & great food, especially when 2 friends were sharing a room $14.50 each with the air conditioning on nearly 24 hours in the day then they want free food, maybe I should pay for their next holiday!!
I am the Owner & I have the British sense of humour, which is a unique type of humour, many British TV comedies were classed as inappropriate in other countries.

I would say that straight & honest way of communicating can be taken the wrong way by someone who doesn’t live their life like that i.e. not one single complaint whilst here but when out of sight slagging people off behind their backs that is Obnoxious

My employees are very good at their jobs, serving & taking care of our guests, if that is taken in the wrong way, that can only be because of a over active imagination & warped mind.

Famous words of Abraham Lincoln – “… Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt”. Maybe that’s why there wasn’t a complaint whilst on the premises?

We welcome genuine complaints whilst you are here & they will be dealt with.
