After working in the country a friend and I decided to spend New Years in Sihanoukville.
Positives - Location, a street over from the main strip of Ochheuteal beach; Rooms, decently sized, nice balcony with collapsing sliding doors which is great to get some sun and air in the room, shower head (not one of those typical detachable things in Cambodia), mini bar; All day room cleaning; Serene pool area.
Negatives - Poor customer service, having stayed in a variety of places throughout Cambodia I have found that the staff are generally very helpful and at least one person can speak English enough. The staff here have very little English, and generally pass questions on to other staff - who also cannot understand much of what you say, after being referred to 6 or so people for a simple question it tends to wear you down a bit. When paying for our stay it took 15 minutes to work the credit card machine, and they tried to have us pay twice for lack of understanding of the system; Night club next door, which our room was next to so it was very loud throughout the night (and once that stopped the roosters started/ the crying baby next door - nothing ear plugs can't fix though); No hot water in the shower.
Overall it's not a bad place to stay, and has been comfortable, but I would not stay here again.
