The best two weeks of our four week stay, wish we had found it at the beginning. Peter and Gemma who are the new owners made our stay perfect... what a wonderful and helpful couple. The food cooked by Peter (a trained chef) was superb, whether it was English or Khmer His 'belly buster' burger was to die for!!! Nothing was too much trouble and would cook food not on menu if possible. They cooked food for at least two other bars, which says a lot for the quality of the food. Bungalows had a lovely cottage feel with modern amenities e.g. hot shower, air-con, fan and comfortable beds Our bungalow almost at the top had the most enormous balcony (see pics) .Lena the manageress spoke very good English, with English sense of humour!!!!!, but could also welcome guests in other languages. Rooms cleaned daily, and checked by Gemma or Lena. Cant wait to go back! Thanks Peter and Gemma for making our stay so complete!!

Just spent 5 days at the newly renovated Aquarium bungalows on Serendipity beach. Bungalows were great with hot power shower and big balcony. This gave wonderful sea views whilst sitting with the occasional 'Sun Downer'! Beds really comfortable and surprisingly the room had a fridge and tea/coffee making facilities which was a lovely touch. You can see the owners have put a lot of thought and money into getting this place just right for their visitors and is wonderful for anyone looking for a relaxing beach front holiday. I was told that the Aquarium food used to be excellent and the current owners have obviously kept this standard of excellence. Peter (owner and qualified English Chef) was really friendly and the breakfast was to die for. Really sets you up for the day. Gemma, Peter's wife, is great fun and makes you feel very welcome. Will definitely be recommending the Aquarium to everyone I know and hope to be going back soon.

Noticed on a stroll along Serendipity (the nice side of the pier) that The Aquarium had reopened after several months of renovation. It being that time of day, I popped in to see how the new menu was looking. Veering more towards Western/British food, the restaurant offers a good range of dishes and the breakfasts look amazing. I decided to go for the old comfort food favourite of fish and chips. The hosts; Peter who cooks, and Gemma who runs front of house, had been chatty from the start, and when they heard my choice they immediately apologised that they only had frozen chips as had been let down for potatoes that day. No matter; the beer batter on the fish was tasty and succulent, the fish itself moist and delicious, and the accompanying mushy peas a little dish of heaven from home.
Despite the hosts' dubious choice of football teams, this looks like it will be a successful venture. The placement on the beach offers gorgeous views and is far enough from the less salubrious side of the pier that the tinny cheesy backpacker music is too faint to annoy.
Definitely somewhere I will return to when I need a great plate of home cooked comfort food and some cheeky Scouse banter!
