Motel Trees is an older motel, which is part of its charm. The issue here is not the outward appearance, but the infrastructure. They advertise internet, though you have about a 10% chance to get on. One would expect hot water, though the water is barely warm and takes just under 5 minutes to get to this point. Now here is where you should hold your expectations. It was clear that the owner (or manager) had to offer an ear to many others before me. By the time I approached her with some concerns she had a catchall phrase at the ready. She said, "it's an older motel and it is what it is." I wasn't asking for anything, but to just make them aware of the issues at the moment. I can deal with the inconveniences with staying here, but it's a hard swallow to hear the owner (manager) be so dismissive and so quickly to boot. Not saying you shouldn't stay here, but you have been duly notified of where to keep your expectations.

The rooms here are clean and comfortable. The place is a little old, but well-kept. It is right beside the Trees restaurant, and across the street from the Trees of Mystery. It's a great place to stay when sight-seeing the trees.

My family got 3 rooms here for our 4th of July vacation. The entire staff was friendly and helpful. We had a great vacation and will stay here again for sure. The small hike from this property to the beach is a must!

Room Tip: Ask for the remodeled rooms, not all of them are at this time.

This was perfect timing for a stop. The hotel is quite a bit older but in good condition. Large rooms and very clean. Can't beat the price! Walls are paper thin. Can easily hear your neighbors. Also, lots of noise from the road. All in all, a good place for a quick nights stay.

Room Tip: I would suggest an end room so you don't have people on both sides of you.

This hotel surprised us. We had to change our plans last minute and this was the only hotel that could take us. They made a family of 4 split into 2 rooms since each room has only one full size bed, and the adults had to split up because they didn't want the kids in the room without an adult. The price for one room is reasonable, but having to double it makes it not a good value. They could have put us in one room and given us fold-up beds. The service was terrible. The woman out front didn't smile once. So we were all set to give it a low rating.
But...the rooms are surprisingly nice. The bathrooms are large and updated. We were quite comfortable. We ate at the adjacent Forest Cafe, which had a good variety of food, although it was a bit bland. It is a great location along the Redwood Highway and is right across the street from Trees of Mystery. So the view out our window was of Paul Bunyon. Yikes!
Overall, we were glad to get the hotel and were comfortable. But if we went back, we'd try for a different place to stay.

The location is fantastic. The rooms are a good size, we had a 2 bedroom. Cleaning staff is very good. The bathroom is very spacious and clean, but definitely needs a fan. The carpets have a very musty smell, and I recommend shoes. The bed linens- sheets are fresh, but blankets not so much. Blankets are also old. The WiFi worked for maybe 1-2 minutes per day, so they should not be advertising it.
We had no cell phone coverage.
The electrical plugs in the room did not always keep things plugged in, including coffee maker.
The Forest Cafe next door was awful. Pasta tasted about 1 week old and stale, and crispy chicken came to us uncooked!!!

We stayed in room 16. It was clean, updated with dual pane windows (can't hear traffic on 101). Everyone that worked there was very nice and friendly. It isn't the "Hilton" but it is a great place to stay and enjoy No. California coast. The price is great also.
