Description: SpecialtiesFrench, Spanish & Italian inspired farm-to-table fare! Happy Hour starts daily at 3 p.m. and includes $8 cocktails, $5 sangria and $4 tapas.HistoryEstablished in 2008Whisknladle is a nationally-acclaimed restaurant located in the heart of beautiful downtown La Jolla, Calif. Renowned for its Spanish, French & Italian inspired farm-to-table fare, Whisknladle was recently awarded both the Critic's Pick and Readers' Choice for "Best Farm-to-Table" restaurant by San Diego Magazine. Corporate Executive Chef, Ryan Johnston, was named "Best Chef" by San Diego Home & Garden readers in 2012 and again by San Diego Magazine readers in 2013.Meet the Business Owner: Arturo K.Whisknladle Hospitality started simply with the serendipitous meeting of one talented chef [Ryan Johnston] and one young entrepreneur [Arturo Kassel] in 2006. Convinced that what San Diego needed was a farm-fresh restaurant that served from-scratch cooking, the pair opened Whisknladle in the heart of La Jolla in 2008. This back-to-basics approach to cooking - or gourmet comfort food - has firmly planted Whisknladle in the hearts of locals and tourists alike.A La Jolla institution with a national following, Whisknladle expanded its concept into another style of restaurants - Prepkitchen. A restaurant designed for cooks by cooks, Prepkitchen focuses on delivering the same farm-fresh and seasonal cuisine at an everyday-eats price. Since opening the first Prepkitchen in La Jolla, the concept has exploded. In 2010, Whisknladle Hospitality opened Prepkitchen Del Mar and then Prepkitchen Little Italy in 2012.Whisknladle Also RecommendsPrepkitchen La Jolla7556 Fay AveLa Jolla, CA 92037Category: American (New)"Inspired by cooks for cooks, Prepkitchen serves artisanal, local fare at an everyday-eats price!"Prepkitchen Del Mar1201 Camino Del MarDel Mar, CA 92014Category: American (New)"Located in downtown Del Mar, Prepkitchen serves artisanal, farm-to-table style cuisine in the city's beautiful, coastal neighborhood environment."Prepkitchen Little Italy1660 India StSan Diego, CA 92101Category: American (New)

“Chilequiles!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

My first time I stumbled upon whisk'n'ladel was for brunch day after a wedding. I was feeling a little sick, tired from the night before, and wanted to eat something yummy. And then whisk'n'ladel appeared from the corner and it was beautiful, reminded me of many brunch spots I love to eat at home in Seattle. Service was excellent, atmosphere was perfect, and the food was beyond amazing! I had my first chilequiles here and it was SO good. I went back to the la jolla area again this July and you better believe I payed them a visit once again!

“Innovative and Friendly Farm to Table”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

A passion for good food and service was evident in every employee working at this amazing restaurant. Our server had such a great and positive attitude and the whole place had a great vibe. The food was innovative and delicious. The presentation, quality and taste of our dishes were all spot on. I can't say enough good things about this place. It was our favorite meal of the vacation. Everything we ordered was delicious!

“Surprisingly good food, LARGE portions”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2014

We stopped by for a very late lunch on a rainy day. Fortunately, their front patio has a canvas roof on it.
I was surprised that the lunch menu was quite limited, with a number of brunch items included, but managed to find something suitable.
I chose the appetizer quiche which came with a decent sized salad (not just a few leaves to make it look pretty). The little, round quiche was delicious (around $13) and more than sufficient to fill a very hungry tummy at lunch time!
My husband chose the fish tacos which were excellent (around $15) and combined them with a huge mound of steaming, delicious French fries.
I looked at neighboring tables and the portion size of cheeseburger & fries would be sufficient to share. The same for the stack of 3 pancakes.
The service was prompt and friendly. The restaurant quite large with 'indoor tables' and also a private room for small functions.

I would certainly eat there again in the evening - when hopefully, they would have a more comprehensive menu.

“Great people watching site and really good food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2014

Be sure you arrive after five as they have a limited menu before then. The food was very good and the first server was excellent. They switched servers on us as they got ready for the evening crowd and the second guy was very slow and inattentive. The food was good.

“HEADACHE WITH GOOD FOOD”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2014

The food is good and changes regularly and the serve staff is excellent, however on a brunch occasion we came in at 10:00 and loud rap music was playing, we had to ask twice to get the music turned down and to another station. There was no one under 40 in the place. We were told that the manager liked it. Dinner was the next time we came to the restaurant. Again loud rap music was playing and we asked them to turn it down, they didn't. We hadn't ordered yet so we said no problem we'll go someplace else. Our waitress said she would turn it down. When the manager of the staff came and asked how things were we told him our problem with the loud music and he responded "we like it". I live in La Jolla and will not go again and there are too many great restaurants to have an employee be rude.
