We are from Norway and stayed for two nights (Mid June 2013) in the Garden Suite with a private courtyard and small kitchen - perfect for couples. The entrance door opened directly towards the ocean with the courtyard in front (which was more of an open patio but still private enough) so we found ourselves sitting outside enjoying the view. There are grass areas with benches and a picnic table literally across the road in front of the hotel and the paths down to the beach took less than several minutes!
This hotel is unique, easily accessible, good parking, and most-importantly has a great oceanfront view! The service was exceptional and David was a great help and prepared our room for an earlier check-inn, recommended great restaurants, and was a big help in general. The hotel has fewer units thus the management seems personable and passionate. We were told that some of the units differ which can be an advantage if you are just wanting this hotel for its location but I would check the various packages on their official webpage prior to booking.
This was a delight and we wished that we could have stayed longer! Because we opted for a unit with a kitchen, we made our own food but there are some very nice restaurants nearby and within reasonable walking distances. The breakfast however was minimal as we suspect that the hotel has limited guests wanting this service (or the fact that some units have kitchens).
As far as attractions, The Contemporary Art Museum is literally across the street. The shoreline is a VERY nice walk or jog. We saw a lot of seals, many locals enjoying the water (scuba diving) and we think that this was much better than the flat Mission Beach area. There are many nice coves and small sandy beach areas that are a little more private however the natural rocks and cliffs are a huge attraction. We would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend this to anyone.
