“Perfect Romantic Getaway”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

My husband and I booked two nights here after coming to California for a family wedding. We needed a few nights to ourselves and we are so happy we chose The Bed and Breakfast Inn at La Jolla. We originally booked the most inexpensive room in the inn, figuring it would be enough for us (small spaces do not bother us & we are ok with "European Style" places such as this) and that it was worth the extra price tag given the location/romantic atmosphere. However, upon arrival we were upgraded to another room at no additional cost by the warm & welcoming manager, Margaret. We were thrilled with the new room and her abundant hospitality. Now, granted we were there mid-week and it wasn't as busy as it probably is on the weekends, but it just goes to show you - hey, never know!

In addition to the promised romantic ambiance, the food and advice from the staff was also a pleasant surprise and worth the price as well. We had a three course breakfast, which included dessert and champagne mimosas. Each room has little glasses for sherry, and wine & cheese is offered every evening from 5-6pm. Parking wasn't an issue for us being there midweek since there were some open spaces in the back (room for 3-4 vehicles), but even so, the staff was very accommodating with tips and suggestions for parking.

Overall, I just can't say enough about this place and the staff. It was absolutely perfect and exactly what we were looking for. If us two frugal lovebirds could swing it, you can as well! Trust me, it is worth every penny!

Room Tip: Go midweek if at all possible for a more satisfying and intimate experience

Perfect in every way, relaxing, charming and a complete contrast from the hustle and bustle of everyday stressful routines. Would certainly recommend as I will be visiting again in the future with my family.

Such a great find!

This B and B was everything we hoped for and more. It is in a beautiful area within walking distance of the beach, shopping and great restaurants. We loved the inn and area so much we stayed an extra day.

Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. We got a three course breakfast every morning and it was all incredible. There were garden and balcony areas that made you forget you were in the city.

We stayed in the Fiesta room, which was beautiful. It had a garden view and huge bath tub. We plan on returning as soon as we can.

Room Tip: Look at the descriptions closely on the website and compabre them to get the feel you want.

Thank you Margaret for your tasty 3-course breakfasts and charming English motherly ways. Thank you Bradley for all your concierge suggestions of places to go in and around San Diego. And for going the extra mile to make sure I had a secure internet connection for an important conference video call. And thank you Theresa for being the first face to greet us when we came and the last to say goodbye. When Theresa heard we had to leave early the next morning before breakfast, she surprised us with a splendid goodie bag to go for each of us with healthy, nourishing food that would travel well.

This trio were really top notch. And Cecilia, always with a ready smile, served our breakfast and kept our room spotless throughout our stay. We were in the WindNSea Room from which we could see the ocean a block away. It was roomy, with a TV, although the bathroom was a wee bit small. No matter. We didn't come to La Jolla to spend time indoors, but to take full advantage of the great outdoors.

The public areas were very spacious. We spent time in the charming outdoor courtyard with the burbling fountain, in the upstairs library with the attached deck, and of course in the dining room with very nice other guests. And parking was no trouble. We could either park in the back or out front.

The location was extremely convenient. Most nights we walked into the town of La Jolla where there were many restaurant choices. And La Jolla was just 20-0 minutes from northern destinations (Encinitas) or southern destinations (downtown San Diego). Perfect!

Best of all, the whole experience was very relaxing. No stress, no fuss. And isn't that what a vacation is all about?

Everyone tried to accommodate us. Margaret in particular worked hard to find 6 unique breakfasts that were wheat-free, gluten-free and dairy-free. Very good job!

When we return to San Diego, this will once again be our home base.

Room Tip: Call the inn and discuss the various rooms. This is a 100-yr old historic building, so some rooms ha...

We appreciate your review. We pride ourselves in affording our guests an authentic bed and breakfast experience with all of the extra amenities that come with staying in small B&B's as opposed to larger hotels or inns. Breakfast is the second most important part of the experience and being treated as our special house guest is the first. Thank you and hope to see you again soon.

We spent three wonderful nights at this B & B and it felt like home. We appreciated the peacefulness of the B & B as well as the welcoming staff and friendly guests. We highly recommend a room in the annex facing the inner courtyard where you can relax in the afternoon or enjoy wine and cheese before going out for dinner. Most restaurants are within walking distance which we took advantage of. We also had a great time walking along the La Jolla cove which is a five minute walk away. Minutes away is the art museum. When we were there breakfasts were set for 9 am. We actually prefer an earlier breakfast but we made due. We stayed in the Fiesta Room which was very comfortable. Having complimentary bottled water each day and a small fridge was a nice touch as were the comfy slippers and housecoat. There is limited reserved parking but we always managed to find a spot as the inn was not too busy,

Room Tip: Fiesta Room was just right (2nd floor) no one above or below us

Lovely place that is only a couple blocks to restaurants, shops, and children's cove where the harbor seals hang out. People who run it are all very friendly. In theory parking could be limited but since most of the immediate buildings are public buildings if you are there on a weekend it won't be a problem; we parked right in front of it both days we were there. Breakfasts, while delicious, can also be very rich. may be best creme brûlée I've ever had.

Room Tip: we were in Cove which I think was smallest room but was fine for our needs. some rooms are directly...

Glad you enjoyed your visit with us. Our Chef Steve and Margaret ( innkeeper and also chef during the week ) thank you for complimenting their culinary talents. We try to make our 3 course breakfast extra special since it is a major part of the B&B experience. Thank you again.
