We were extremely pleased with this hotel. They attendants were very accommodating...we are older and have a rice bag to heat after long travels. As there were no microwaves in the rooms, they told us we could use the employee lounge!! The bed was rather low to the ground, as was the commode, chair and table but we adapted. The bed was VERY comfortable - and we have a Select Comfort at home! We have stayed at several 4 star hotels and have never had a room as clean as this one. There was absolutely no mold of any sort in the bathroom....it was immaculate! The ONLY complaint that we had - and it was at no fault of the management or attendants, is that we had a baby next door that woke us up at night by crying so much.....we also would hear whenever anyone would get ice. We also weren't too pleased with having to pay $15/day for parking when people were parking there to go to Clays Restaurant upstairs....THEY should have been the ones to pay for parking!! The Attendant also told us how to get to the Scenic Coastline when we mentioned that we wanted to get to the beach (which was to be 4 blocks away). We never DID walk to the beach but went by his recommendation and the Scenic Coastline did not disappoint. All in all - a GREAT hotel and we will stay there again!

Management has still not responded to our repeated complaints regarding the noise from a private party above our room. We paid for an ocean view but were moved to a parking lot cave after we made repeated complaints about the noise and loud music. Horrible guest relations and run down hotel. Noisy both from parties and street. So many lovely hotels to choose from in La Jolla, this is NOT one of them.

We stayed here for a getaway weekend, hoping to relax and enjoy La Jolla. Our room had a nice view of the ocean, but it is still noisy due to the location on a very busy street. Room was "recently updated" looked worn out and had burned out lightbulbs. Movie rental was a joke, The movies are all fuzzy and jumpy, called the front desk and they said it was a problem with the movie company. We could pick another one. What?? Came back from dinner and heard and saw flashing lights and loud bass thumping music from the top floor restaurant area. We asked the front desk what was going on and they said it was the evening's entertainment (although we were told upon check in it was a jazz musician playing from 6-9). It was a pirvate event that was selling tickets for this dance party. Well it turns out that the "entertainment" was directly above our room. It was so loud we could not even hear the television. We called down to the front desk at 11 PM to find out when this was going to end, and they told us "very soon...within 1/2 hour". An hour later it was still cranking away....we called the front desk again and told them we could not go to sleep due to noise and they said we can move to a different room . It was now midnight. And they tell us we have to switch rooms. Okaaaaay. We pack up and switch to a room on the lowest floor now facing the back parking lot. We PAID for a ocean view room. The next morning, we complained once again and asked if they would refund the rate difference as we had to eat our breakfast looking out at car tailgates instead of the ocean view we paid for. and we were told to contact the manager. Well after 3 emails, a written letter and 2 voice mail messages left for the manager we still have received NO COMMUNICATION from this hotel. Do not stay here, there are many hotels in La Jolla with much better service who actually care about their guests. This place does not.

Overall this hotel should be a great business hotel. The location is great, as it’s close to the interstates to get to your client’s offices, but has very little road noise. It’s also just a few blocks away from the water and a number of great restaurants to visit at the end of a long day. The open showers are a bit odd, but who doesn’t love to watch the sunrise while showering? Unfortunately, the entire experience was dampened by how the internet didn’t work. I was told the wired internet was being upgraded so it didn’t work at all (would have appreciated that heads up when I booked) and the wireless internet was spotty at best. My colleague had slightly better reception in his room, but it was still in and out, and mine didn’t connect for the entire week. If they can turn that around I might stay again. Unfortunately, if they don’t I’ll be looking elsewhere. If you don’t need to get online – give this place a shot! The view from the restaurant at breakfast is a wonderful way to start the day.

Rooms were very mod and cool. Staff always nice in person. However, the provided internet was so slow it was completely unusable in the rooms. The shower water was hot the first night, but so cold we couldn't shower the next night and cool to luke warm the other two times. No continental breakfast is provided, which would be fine since it is not advertised and there is an upscale restaurant on the roof, but it turns out it is closed for breakfast Monday and Tuesday. Housekeeping did not remove a large stack of food trash from the room despite the fact that I left a note. They also knocked but entered immediately anyway though we responded saying to come back. Finally, on at least three occasions we called the front desk repeatedly from our room and no one answered.

I accidentally booked this room through Priceline. I intended to book North Coastal San Diego to be near Legoland, but inadvertently selected Coastal San Diego. This turned out to be a great accident.

We were on the 5th floor in what the front desk clerk promised would be a larger than normal room. He also guaranteed we would be pleased with it. We were! It felt large and had a luxury hotel vibe with that polished stone look in the bathroom and foyer that feels expensive. The above counter sink was hilarious in that it was rectangular and I actually misplaced a toothbrush behind it in the space between the mirror and the sink! I can't say that would happen with a conventional sink. The most interesting feature of the room is the see through shower, i.e. a shower with a glass wall adjoining the bedroom. If you don't like showering and having your young kids see your weenie, you can always put the shade down to hide behind. Otherwise, it definitely makes the room unique and memorable.

The furniture was retro 60s futuristic/modern... that's the best way to describe it. The balcony was lovely, but it had this fine white powder across the little table that I later realized was sand. We had a peekaboo view of the ocean since we were not in a high enough floor.

While I can't say that the bed was very high quality, I thought it was comfortable enough. My main problem with the room is that I could not control the temperature comfortably. When I went to bed, I was cold, but in the night I would throw my covers off, and then later I would be cold again. I woke up every few hours. Not good.

The best part of the hotel was the location. We walked to the beach within 5-10 minutes, with shopping and restaurants within 5 minutes'. We enjoyed Papalulu's breakfasts in the open patio (try the Kalua Pork Benedict), and we visited the Sushi place twice. Having lucked into this hotel location, I found out that that the best activity in La Jolla was ocean kayaking in the Marine Preserve, seeing sea lions, leopard sharks, and garibaldi (oversized goldfish). All of these kayak places are within 5 minutes' walk of the hotel!!! We wore our rash shirts and board shorts to the kayak places and walked back in the same clothes. Very convenient.

As for the hotel restaurant and pool, we did not try them. We simply didn't have time to try the small pool, which was empty every time we looked at it. A Subway is right in front of the hotel, if you need something convenient to take with you to Legoland in Carlsbad, 30 minutes away.

My husband tried the fitness room, which he complained smelled strongly of rubber.

Parking was another drawback of this hotel. While it is possible to park in the surrounding neighbourhood, we chose to pay the $15/day fee for convenience. On the plus side, we always found parking easily, despite the hotel being nearly full on the Labour Day long weekend.

First the positives: nice location, good parking, nice ocean view, excellent restaurant on premises, helpful staff, and contemporary decor. Now my qualms. We were at first charged for parking, but they took that off the bill after we pointed out that some guests were not charged. We were not offered the free breakfast until we pointed out, again, until we complained. Some people in our conference group were given discounted rates for certain days; we were not. (Did we have sucker written on our foreheads?) No business center. The room was okay. What a cool shower! Great view of ocean but only on the top floors. The bottom floors look out over the parking lot. The room door was loose on its hinges and the paint on the outside of the door was missing in places. My pet peeve: the mattress was worn! I slept on the floor two nights rather than submit my back to the abuse. Paying to sleep on the floor at a moderately expensive hotel--not cool. The linens and towels were reasonably good. My sense is that management should undertake a fairly substantial capital improvement in order to bring up the quality.
