“Great for small kids”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

The aquarium is great for kids ages 2-7/8 years old. It's small but very interactive/hands on for the small kids. We had a 3 and 5 year old and the loved it! They enjoyed the interactive conservation area with games and the tide pools outside where you could touch. They also enjoyed the shark feeding. The view is gorgeous, too!

“Great for a small aquarium”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Lots of varied displays. Really enjoyed the tidal pool exhibit - great as a first step to exploring some tidal pools on our own - educated us about what we would be seeing. Difficult to see when attending shark feeding sessions. Nice area for young kids. Look for discount admission coupons in brochures found at hotels.

“Awful aquarium”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

This is a shameful aquarium particularly when you consider all the great marine research done at the University. Do not waste your time or money here. Go to the Monterey aquarium to see a real aquarium.

“Birch Aquarirum is very lovely!”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

Saw the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, California. Loved the aquarium. One great fact is that if you accompany someone who is in a wheelchair, your admission is free! As is very common in San Diego area, there is a military discount. Many small to medium tanks which is great as it is nice for children to gather round have a look and move on. It does not have a "huge tank" as is popular with some other aquariums, but, guess what? Its right next to the Pacific Ocean!!!!! That is a huge tank to explore with scuba, snorkel or boards.

“We had a great time!!!”
Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

I was initially a little doubtful about going to a small aquarium that I'd never heard of when Sea World is pretty close by, but I am so glad we went. It was affordable, small enough to entertain my 4 year old for several hours & I liked knowing this money would help research. I was shocked how much they had to see. We were shocked to see a huge octopus up close. We've usually seen the octopuses in other aquariums hide so you can't see them in the tank. This guy is huge, or at least his head was at least 3ft. My son loved the tide pools, the solar energy hands on section & the kids puppet play area. We loved seeing the different kinds of sea horses & sea dragons. Overall it was DEFINITELY worth our trip! If not for the aquarium the view from the tide pools alone was great!! We will definitely be back!
