This is not a glitzy beach resort and it's a bit old, but I really enjoyed my stay here. It is right on a nice beach and the staff went out of their way to be helpful. Only two caveats: (1) I paid to park my car in the garage but didn't realize that there is plenty of free street parking (2) it's a long walk to downtown La Jolla despite how it appears on the map. They have a van but it was in the shop when I thought I'd use it. Good rates and a very good choice if you don't need glitz.

Room Tip: Be careful of rooms facing the street

Great location on the beach. Great for walking and watching surfing, scuba, surfers, and swimmers. Close to the great restaurants of LaJolla. Watching the gorgeous sunsets can become addictive. the rooms are comfortable with great decks. The areas like elevators could us some updating.

Room Tip: Our Coastal view room also had ocean views.

Their bar is nice and the bar staff is really good; the rooms are very basic but fine. It's about commensurate with the price if you're spending around $150 per night I guess.

The gym is not worth even considering - it's tiny with no real equipment and no room to move around in - but they do have a great beach right outside and that leads of course to many fitness options.

Me and my pal were here decompressing and if you do manage to go for this and can not drive while there, it can be relaxing. The area however is a very rich suburb (i.e. mostly a residential area) and has a set of very expensive restaurants within a ten minute walk. Other than that, it's all surf-shop and housing. I found the traffic and the area in general to be kind of weirdly stressful.

I won't go back but it was clean and generally seems like a well-run place.

Room Tip: Obviously if you can avoid the ground floor and get the sea-side, you will be happier.

We loved being right on La Jolla beach and, especially, the incredible activities there on a beautiful, cool Saturday morning (100+ surfers, 5+ scuba dive groups, 2-3 kayaking groups, an open-water, fund-raising swim, a few swimmers, etc.). We loved walking the beach and to a fun, Italian restaurant nearby for dinner.

The room was much like you'd find in a good motel; not fancy, but clean, roomy, and comfortable.

This hotel is a really amazing place. The location is great, the grounds spotless, and the hotel a fun throwback to an older time.

The rooms were great. Yes, it is an older hotel so its not going to be like the W. I could see being let down if you didn't have a good view. I recommend splurging on the beach front, you fall asleep listening to the waves. The suites had full kitchens and a perfect setup, you could put a family of 4 in this room easy.

The restaurant was awesome and the bar staff really amazing. The views can not be beat.

The location is on the beach and walking distance to numerous stores, cafes, and shops. Whatever you need is within 5 minutes.

Overall this is a top choice in the area.

Room Tip: Go beach front.
