This is a large Hilton that seems more suited to conventions at first but it's right on a golf course which in turn overlooks the ocean and is a quiet relaxing leisure property. The grounds and tea are beautiful and it's a short drive to the town of LaJolla or the town of Del Mar.

We were lured into this hotel by the seemingly great rate, only to be blindsided by unreasonable parking and wifi fees (that's right, wifi's not free for hotel guests). The posted rates therefore are not actual rates, assuming you park a car and/or have to use room wifi. I travel a lot and appreciate a feeling of being a valued customer (or, in this case, a valued Hilton Honors member). This hotel only seems to tell you at every turn "We're too big to care."

my wife surprised me with a trip to Torrey Pines and a stay at the Hilton. From valet parking to checkout it was a GREAT experience. The food was FANTASTIC and the service was 5 star. Mandy was our waitress at Torreyan restaurant and bar. She was AMAZING! it was pretty busy and she handled everything with speed and Grace. our bartender Ty recommended delicious drinks and we enjoyed our time by the fire pits watching the sun go down. if you want to feel pampered you should stay there. Thanks!

I stay at this property often for business. The staff is very friendly and accomodating from check-in to check-out. The location is very central to all of the sites in San Diego as well as the business district. The landscaping is beautiful. I had encountered a minor issue during my stay and the staff went above and beyond to help me. This is my choice hotel for the San Diego area hands down.

Room Tip: Views of the golf course are fantastic, request a balcony!

Cameron was awesome at check in. Mandy the waitress @ Torreyana Lounge was so nice and polite. Also had great service from Marco during our breakfast. He was always there when we needed him for anything.

But the star of the weekend was Conner. This kid was everywhere. The first day he was working the pool area, then at night he was working the Torreyana Grill. Then the next morning he was working the breakfast area. I asked him if he ever sleeps...lol. This kid is a hard worker and always had a smile on his face.We then see him the next morning at breakfast again. He was always in a good mood and always gave us great customer service. This kid should be promoted to manager soon. I know he's young but he has the qualities you want in a manager regardless of age.

The only negative I have is , no microwaves in the rooms.I have a 1 yr old who needed milk heated up. It was a burden to have to go down to the lobby or restraurant to get milk heated up every few hours.I mean, Hampton Inn's have microwaves. The girl at the front desk said they would send me one with no-charge but it never came.By that time the day was over and we were leaving the next day anyways.

Also, the breakfast was great. Dinner was good but expensive for the size portions you got. Ordered a stella and it wasn't very cold. John Taffer would be really upset...lol

Overall , great experience and great service by all mentioned above

I like this hotel. The location is pretty, the grounds are nice and the rooms are comfortable. The hotel is a drive away from la jolla's charming shopping and restaurants, but it's got the beautiful state park right next door and of course, the golf course. The rooms are really nice - especially the bath. But it all feels corporate, not cozy. If I were alone, it would have been perfect. But my wife joined me on this business trip so the lack of personalized touches was more noticeable.

The hotel looks nice on the surface but as you dig deeper they miss the mark in most categories:

Pros:
Location - good location but you're on an island once you get there and have to drive to pretty much everything
Service - The valet guys are great with on point directions and fast service. Also experience great service in restaurant (Mandy).
Rooms - quiet and recently renovated, balconies for all rooms but very few rooms have premium views

Cons:
Resort pricing - Resorts normally have pool service and I don't mind paying $50 for 4 drinks if I have someone bring them to me with a smile and a couple of glasses of water
Restaurant - I enjoyed a $27 breakfast buffet one morning. I took my group of 4 to a restaurant on the beach just a short drive away and spent $77 (for 4 ppl) the next morning. The food was better and we had a combined 3 bloody m's and 3 mimosas to boot. Our foursome also had dinner at the restaurant one night and while our server was excellent the food was mediocre at best. Do yourself a favor and drive or catch and uber down the hill to La Jolla to spend the same and get an experience that is 10x better.

Thankfully I didn't use Wifi so I can't speak to some of the same frustrations others have noted.

Torrey Pines - if you golf you've heard of it. Our foursome was underwhelmed. Avoid the North Course completely. With the exception of seeing the ocean periodically I could have been on any goat track in Amarillo TX or some other nondescript city across middle america.
