The scenery is great, beach was nice, weather was perfect. Kids (5-10 yo) could see marine life in the tidal pools (on the rocks). Wouldn’t recommend the rocks for toddlers. Seeing the seals/sea lions outside a zoo was cool, and my kids really liked the baby seagulls. The seals/wildlife do have a “natural” odor...but so does the zoo. Very good way to spend an hour or three.

Seals and sea lions roam freely on the beach and interact with travelers. I've never seen such scene anywhere before.

I spent the day at La Jolla and surrounds, but the Cove was my favourite part of LJ.

It’s definitely an incredible experience seeing the seals and sea lions, and I also took a kayak tour around the caves. Even just walking around without taking the kayak, the scenery is amazing and great for exploring on foot to a certain extent.

I preferred other beaches to LJ shores and other areas for food as a budget traveller looking for unique eats and as an Aussie with high expectations of beaches, but I would still consider the Cove a must see when visiting SD.

La Jolla cove is a must. It is nature at its finest. Worth the drive and time. Paying for parking is the easiest way so you don’t have to keep hunting for a spot.

Being a local, I get slightly frustrated with the sheer volume of tourists in the Cove area, but I quickly forget about the craziness once I get in the water. During the summer, I frequently swim to the Shores and back. The amount of sea life amazes me, and the caves are always a treat when the water is flat.
