menu changes constantly, and there's always a lot of tasty items. Be sure to ask what the risotto special is.

“Highly Recommended”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2008

While we didn't eat a full meal here we did go twice. The first time we went for a martini and an appetizer. The martinis were really good--one was The Kiss from a Rose and the other one was a Lavender thing. I would order either one of them again. The appetizer was a shrimp tempura. VEry fresh. The other time we went back looking for dessert. We had Baileys and coffee with two different desserts--one had sour cherry tarts and the other one had tiny fiji apples. Both were EXCELLENT. Everything we saw taken out of the ktichen looked great. Although we sat in the bar both times at high tables, there is seating out back of the hotel which offers a gorgeous view of the sunset. The main dining room was also very nice although there was no view. Next time we are in La Jolla we will be eating a full meal here.

I went here with friends on a fancy dinner night out and although the service was slow the food and wine was excellent. (turns out there was a huge party in the next room and not enough service to go around.

“I have eaten at Nine-Ten...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2008

I have eaten at Nine-Ten twice: when it first opened and hosted the chefs of La Jolla tasting, and recently for Sunday brunch. The chefs' tasting dinner featured dishes prepared by the top chefs of La Jolla (Tapenade, Azuls, Georges, etc.). My favorite course was prepared by the Nine-Ten chef. The other chefs’ courses were typical of an elite menu, and thus good but uninspired. Unfortunately, my recent brunch experience suggests that a few years later, Nine-Ten has fallen to the same fate as the top chefs' restaurants. I had a salmon Benedict that was clearly lavish, but very one-dimensional in flavor.

“Horrible Valentine's Day”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2008

We had a terrible time at Nine-Ten for Valentine's Day 2008. We arrived twenty minutes early. They did not seat us for forty-five minutes even though they were only 50% capacity that early in the evening. The 'special' Valentine's day menu was an overpriced ($80/person) limited selection of their regular menu. Half of the patrons (including us) were lucky enough to be stuffed into a small conference room that had been converted into a 'restaurant' behind the real restaurant. It was really tacky. The wait staff had Denny's-level experience...the bus boys actually had more manners than the waiter. This place was an all around disappointment, especially considering the exclusive location.
