Following a swim at La Jolla Shores beach park, our party of three drove up to the summit of Mt. Soledad to enjoy the view and take panoramic photographs. It is well worth the trip. Beautiful view for mile around in every direction. There is a large cross and memorial at the summit, and ample parking. A peaceful place.

Our son recently took command of the Naval Base Point Loma and Mount Soledad comes under his responsibility. We had not been here since the 1980s (when our son was in high school here) so we were pleasantly surprised at the changes.

It is a somewhat time consuming, winding drive up to the site through residential areas but take your time and enjoy the trek. There is ample parking below the summit but it does require some effort to walk uphill to the site. Surrounding the cross (which is under continuous attack by several groups) now are granite walls displaying over 3000 plaques of military figures along with a few presidents and other notable persons. Anyone having a DD-214, which shows military service information, is able to purchase a plaque for display.

Take a stroll along the walls, read some of the plaques and enjoy the terrific views of San Diego.

Drove from San Diego towards Carlsbad and decided to make a quick detour to check out Mount Soledad....the views were amazing. Wish we had more time as some families were enjoying picnics - which looked like a fun idea! Plenty of parking and benches to sit and enjoy the views. A must-see if you are in the area!

Worth the drive. A war memorial, but also probably the best view spot in San Diego. From the mountains to the ocean and everything in between. The castle to the north is the Mormon Temple.

Lovely little park with an excellent view. Enjoyed the veteran memorials too. Hike up the steps and check it out. Note: no restrooms here, just a port o let.
