We stayed here over the recent memorial day weekend. We were fortunate to get the suite which had two decent size bedrooms and two full bathrooms. It also had a kitchenette with two small refrigerators, an electric stove top and a small electric stove. The room was on the second floor with a very nice view across coast blvd to the ocean and two small balconies each with a table and two chairs. The master bedroom had a nice king size bed with a great firm mattress and the second bedroom had a queen bed. Our stay was pleasant, with the beach right across the street it was easy to get there and back from our room. The room is older for sure but it was clean and the bathrooms were both recently redone with nice full showers and very good water pressure. The television had a great variety of channels including several children's and movie choices. We did not have any issues with noise or excessive activity on the hotel property. Our room was set back in the vacation rentals so we had a private entrance and quick access to the street below. The only noise to speak of was the noise of seals and sea lions barking in the coves along the beach. In terms of pricing it was much lower than most other properties in this area. The staff was also very very attentive and helpful including the house keeping team. All in all I can say this is a good place to stay.

The negative reviews are accurate. I chose to stay here because of previous stays at Pacifica hotels in Cambria. Our rooms always had a microwave, refrigerator, and keurig coffee maker. Also, the breakfast was great with lots of options: eggs, bacon, potatoes, waffles and then the continental breakfast usual. So, I expected the room to have a microwave, refrigerator, and keurig coffee maker. Upon arrival there was only an old coffee maker and nothing else, they did provide a refrigerator when we asked about it. When I booked the room the website said the room had a kitchenette, there was just a bar sink there. The breakfast was not so great either, cereal, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, etc. and not even regular bread for toast. We were quite disappointed with the offerings. Now the room, our room seemed as if it was in the middle of being renovated. There were no alarm clocks, few things on the walls, no extra linens for the sofa bed. The bathroom seemed half old and half new, the bath tub and toilet could stand to be replaced, the shower and sink seemed newer. The cinder block building was quite noisy. One night it was so loud half of my family couldn't sleep due to noise in halls and upstairs. The old sliding glass door was tough to open and close. The location is good if you want to be near the cove, it is quite busy traffic wise and noisy. There are many shops and restaurants within walking distance.

I read other reviews that warned me not to expect too much. Given that, I was pleasantly surprised by several things. The room was actually more up to date than I expected, with a clean comfortable bed, modern light fixtures with USB ports, and new furniture and draperies. The bathroom didn't get the treatment, though and still has old tub fixtures and windows, and the toilet seemed direct from an industrial setting (and OMG loud!). The towels were great- fluffy, large, and clean. Soap and shampoo was reasonably good quality.
Breakfast was on par with EconoLodge or Motel 6 except for the view. Pastries from an CostCo box, yogurt, oatmeal, and a pancake machine. The breakfast room was clean and had a great view, but that couldn't overcome the ghetto feeling of people coming to eat in their pajamas and unsupervised children coughing on the pancake batter. Yuck.
The pool area is nice, and includes a hot tub and pool tables. There is music piped in, but no view whatsoever, and the towels are amazingly old and thin. The lobby was also nice, classy and clean. Staff were friendly but the wait was too long, and staff were trying to answer the phone and tend to checkin.
The hotel doesn't have a bar, restaurant, room service or even bellman. For the price, you really can do better, unless you want to be right in the heart of La Jolla. That is the main thing this hotel has going for it. And that doesn't mean it has a beach! I thought I'd be able to take a towel and find some sand, but the hotel is across the street from the seals and sea lions. The smell is really strong and you'd be crazy to get into that cesspool of seal poop. Yuck again.
So all in all, the hotel is doing some things to improve the experience, and much of the disappointment for me was for things outside of management's control. But money comes hard, and for the price, I expected more. I'd have enjoyed the pool more if there was a bar and quality towels. I'd have liked to tip someone to drag my luggage to my room. For the price, a high quality coffee bar and no breakfast ghetto would have been better. Maybe a happy hour on the roof instead, to up the classiness.

Room tip: trees in the park will limit the view from some rooms

My first impression was that the hotel had a nice look to it with a perfect view. First thing I see for parking is a small underground lot. Once you drive in, there are very few spaces and all taken up. The underground lot is so small you cant turn around to go out, you have to reverse. I drove into the second upstairs lot and once again it is full and tiny. I was ready to leave already and drive right back in.

Walked in to check in, staff was nice and check in was easy. I arrived to the room and it was a joke. Bed was ok, they had a flat screen tv on some cheap night stand with cords all over. The bathroom was super tine but it had a nice walk in shower. One thing I noticed right away too is you can hear every single noise outside. Even a quirt conversation upstairs.

Later I went down stairs and asked for water. No water available except for purchasing "voss" water which was a tiny expensive bottle. Went back down later and there was none left, went all night thirsty. The guy just shrugged at the front desk (11pm) and picked his phone back up and continued his conversation, very rude.

I think next time I am just going to stay in a motel 6. Much better place with much better service. Worst hotel visit to date. Honestly can not find anything good about this visit!

Dear NonyaBiz19446,

I am so sorry to hear you did not enjoy the room you booked. Parking in La Jolla can be difficult, so I completely understand that. We are currently working to improve our guest rooms. So, your feedback is appreciated and welcomed. I hope you will give us another chance. Most of our rooms are quite large and offer ocean front views and balconies. I hope you at least enjoyed the spectacular views from our rooftop where we serve our complimentary continental breakfast. Thank you again for your feedback.

We loved this place. Only here for one night on a west coast road trip and wished we could have stayed for longer. The ocean view room was spacious, clean and well furnished with a fantastic view of the ocean.

Very friendly girl at the front desk, highly recommended
