The location and amenities are unparalleled for a summer-time family destination. Comfortable rooms with luxury linens and complete kitchens. Spectacular views of the Pacific ocean and coast line. Best part is the beach is groomed daily and chairs/umbrellas are set up by staff. We enjoy visiting the local shops next to the club or take the scenic walk to the cove via the coast-line trail. It's all great and makes for lifetime family memories. We have vacationed at the LJBTC for over 40 years and will continue to return.

We have been vacationing at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club for fifteen years. Not a year has gone by that we haven't made at least one trip here- most years coming two or three times. The club has old world charm and offers a variety of experiences depending on budget and season. Winter time is our favorite time to visit as it is beautiful weather and less crowded than summer. The summer season is the high season which drives the pricing up, but what a perfect place to be in July! I recommend having the club set up a table and catered dinner on the beach at sunset! The tennis courts are in good shape with plenty of clinics and pro coaching if desired. LOTS to do for the kids! Playground, community beach toy box, kids camp, etc, etc. Love it here!

Room Tip: Get a beachfront suite!

Loved this resort! We stayed over the 4th of July and had a wonderful time. It is perfect for families. The price is high, but our 2 bedroom suite had a great view and worked well for the 5 of us. We did the beach BBQ and watched the fireworks on the beach which was lovely. The best part, beyond being able to walk straight out onto the beach from your room, is the friendliness and service mentality of everyone who works on the property. We met people at the BBQ who have been coming every year for over 30 years and we can understand why. We'll be back.

Room Tip: The 2 bedroom suite with beach views on the lower level are fantastic.

Thank you for the great review! The 4th of July is one of the most popular holidays here at the Beach Club. I am so pleased you and your family were here to enjoy the festivities. We strive to create great family memories at the Club and what better way to do that is a holiday BBQ and fireworks! We hope to see you again next year!

Wonderful "classic" (older) vacation venue experience, with emphasis on beach, tennis, and great staff and amenities. Wonderful gourmet restaurant on site. Staff sets up grills on beach where wonderful beach dinners and parties can be held. Close to La Jolla stores and other visitor activities. Only private hotel beach in area, well maintained,,Great tennis instruction and facility. Beautifully maintained by interested and friendly staff. An old established facility, but upgrading limited by State laws, and very adequate. Staff, location, and beach/tennis availability make up for less than modern appearance. Well done vacation and meeting venue, and makes one feel like you are visiting a real classic with a great history. The tennis history is especially impressive.

Room Tip: Talk to staff about varieties of rooms. Most are beach front in a 2 story building. There are smal...

We stayed at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club over the weekend. It was a perfect family getaway. With grandparents and 3 kids in tow we chose a 2 bedroom with ocean view. Perfect location-right off the beach! Not many hotels are this close to the sand. While it is upscale in price-the rooms are a bit dated but really large and with nice sheets/amenities. I would recommend the ocean side as that is really the beauty of this hotel.. The grounds are nice country club style. But if you are expecting a lush resort than this is not it. The services are all top notch. Beach service with chairs/table/umbrellas and towels all complimentary. Big bin of beach toys and bar/food service too. The nightly set up for BBQ looked like a great idea-we will have to try that next time. Every staff member was very friendly and helpful. I would love to make this a family tradition and come at least once a year. I loved that they also encouraged you to bring your own drinks/food-perfect for a family. We ate a few meals at the beach shack which was very tasty and quick. Fresh fruit in the smoothies. We also walked into town for a few meals as well. Very close to a side street with lots of dining options. Downtown La Jolla is only a free shuttle trip away for those who want more upscale shopping.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms make the difference

Just got home from a lovely vacation at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. We had a room overlooking the garden patio. This room was very small (smaller than expected) and a bit dated, but extremely clean and the kitchenette was a huge plus. A bit cramped for a family of four, BUT we literally only slept there, there was so much to do outside! The beach was lovely with towel and chair service included. They even had a communal toy box for the kids beach toys. The beach itself is clean, pretty seaweed free and gentle waves. Great for small kids. We got to play a few holes of golf on the cute 9-hole 3 par golf course, also clubs and balls included. The kids loved the pond full of ducks & swans and the playground. The Club restaurant was reasonably priced ($9, 3 course kids meal with drink? Yes, thank you!). We didn't get to experience it ourselves but they offer on the sand, beach side BBQ and fire pits! We will definitely do on our next trip. There are plenty of off-site dining locals within walking distance. Also kayak & snorkeling tours within walking distance. You can not beat the location! Hardly any hotels ON the beach in La Jolla. It's also a bit off the super touristy part of La Jolla so it's just less crowded feeling in general. We loved it here and hope to make it annual trip. Oh, service was first class!

My one night stay was short, but I arrived early on a Saturday for the prestigious Pacific Coast Doubles tournament in early March, so the place was teeming with top collegiate tennis players and the weather was summer like. The impressively tall mexican fan palms on the grounds create an amazing landscape. But, alas, the property is in need of a make over, which would also require a far improved people flow. It's a bit quirky, with odd ingress and egress. I'm not sure you can actually walk directly to the Marine Room from the rooms. I had a tiny inside room.

The pool was overrun with children which made it impossible to go near it. At the other extreme, breakfast was heavily skewed toward older folks.

Great tennis history, but the accommodations are mediocre.

Note: dinner at Herringbone in La Jolla village was first rate.
