“Amazing hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014

Just returned from 4 nights at this hotel. It is the perfect hotel for families with young children because of the beautiful beach and many amenities for children. We enjoyed the beach very day and appreciated that the hotel had sand toys and boogie boards available for use. The playground was great and we had fun playing crochet and ping pong also. We had a room on the beach with a separate bedroom and kitchen which was awesome. Our room also had a patio at the back where we ate all our meals. The staff and service was exceptional. We can't wait to return.

After a few years hiatus our family returned to the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club 20 minutes from San Diego and found it as welcoming and brimming with things to do as ever. Most of the rooms open onto the mile-long beach and the never-ending parade of surfers, joggers, swimmers, snorkelers and kayakers. While a multitude of eating spots, and ice cream, pizza, and a general store are just a short walk away in the nearby village, we found ourselves eating many of our meals in the private dining room, or on the beach or poolside. Wonderful food. Enthusiastic service. Relaxingly informal. The extensive, flower-bedecked grounds provide an array of leisure activities. Our grandson even learned to play bocce. At night the air was filled with the aroma of beach barbeques set up on request for individual get-togethers. If there is a better West Coast vacation spot, we haven't found it.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for an unobstructed view of the beach. Use the private dining room (reservations use...

Went with the family for a week at the end of March 2014. It was really wonderful. The beach is just perfect the rooms were clean and roomy, the club dining service had great food and would bring it to you right on the beach. I would love to come back during a warmer time. While the kids were fine with wet suits and boogie boarding it could get pretty chilly. I would easily give this place a five star rating if it had a hot tub.

My wife and I were attending a conference at this hotel. My wife was in the conference and I was on my own for recreation. As many other reviewers have noted, the property is unique and has good rooms and some not so good. After reading the reviews, I was hoping for one of those 'good' rooms, but upon arrival was somewhat disappointed.

Lady luck dealt us unit #209, which had a terrific room of the dumpster and adjoining parking lot on the south end of the property near the Marine Room restaurant. The room itself was a little dated, but was very clean. Wi-fi connectivity on this side of the property is terrible. So, if you need an internet connection besides a 3G or 4G signal- you have to leave the room and go closer to the center of the property.

Despite the completely average room, the staff was very good. The food both in the restaurants and banquets was very good, albeit a bit pricy. Check the menu at breakfast... I ordered a grapefruit juice after my breakfast arrived- it was $5.95. I can get a double jack at my club back home for the same price.

The grounds are beautifully manicured all throughout. The beach is fantastic, and the staff does a great job of maintaining it during low tide. During strong high tides, the surf comes almost all the way to the hotel- which can be bothersome if you are just wanting to laze on the sand and the tide is telling you to move.

Overall, pretty good, but not great. Depends on your needs and expectations. It's not the Ritz Carlton, but it's not the motel 6 either.

Biggest downer- no hot tub/jacuzzi.

Room Tip: Try to get something on the beach.

Loved the style of the resort. The beach is awesome. The rooms are clean. Wished we had a kitchenette. Nice staff. Great place for a meeting or family event. We would go back in a heartbeat if we could have the same great room.

Room Tip: Ask for beach front, not parking lot.

This is a very unique property in a very good way.
The place was built in the 1930s, and is classic and very well kept. If you keep in mind that you are paying for the amazing beauty and location of this place, you will not be disappointed.
One of the unique features is this is probably the only place in California were you have a room that at high tide the waves roll within 50 feet from your room door!
They have rooms of various sizes depending on your needs.
The location and grounds are beautiful!
The entrance is guarded, so only guess can enter and park.
The staff will arrange and set a table for you to cook and have dinner, and/or build a fire on their private beach.

My wife and I went for a romantic weekend, but it appears to be a great place for families too. We saw very happy kids having a great time on the beach. There is shuffle board, a chip and putt golf course, play area for small children, and of course tennis all on the resort grounds.

Thank you to the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club for preserving this gem of a property and keeping it beautiful, exclusive, special, and making it available to others to enjoy and appreciate.

Keep in mind on the beach side, on the ground floor the ocean is noisy, especially certain times of the day and they are people that will be walking up and down in from of your room which means it may be noisier than you expected.

Room Tip: Reserve a room right on the ocean.

What a great-on the beach-spot! We were traveling with my teenage son and his friend. The two rooms with two baths and twin beds in the second room made it a great set up. This is not a luxury property but it has everything you need! Staff is great, the grilling on the beach and firepit were a highlight. Walk out the back door and plop down in a chair on the sand...so convenient and relaxing! Loved having a full kitchen which makes it more of a value in a city where the majority of the dining is expensive. Golf on property was fun...my son got his first hole in one! Ha Ha...68 yards!

Room Tip: First floor rooms are awesome, walk out to shared patio area and to beach beyond. The only downside...
