Just returned from 4 nights at this hotel. It is the perfect hotel for families with young children because of the beautiful beach and many amenities for children. We enjoyed the beach very day and appreciated that the hotel had sand toys and boogie boards available for use. The playground was great and we had fun playing crochet and ping pong also. We had a room on the beach with a separate bedroom and kitchen which was awesome. Our room also had a patio at the back where we ate all our meals. The staff and service was exceptional. We can't wait to return.

After a few years hiatus our family returned to the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club 20 minutes from San Diego and found it as welcoming and brimming with things to do as ever. Most of the rooms open onto the mile-long beach and the never-ending parade of surfers, joggers, swimmers, snorkelers and kayakers. While a multitude of eating spots, and ice cream, pizza, and a general store are just a short walk away in the nearby village, we found ourselves eating many of our meals in the private dining room, or on the beach or poolside. Wonderful food. Enthusiastic service. Relaxingly informal. The extensive, flower-bedecked grounds provide an array of leisure activities. Our grandson even learned to play bocce. At night the air was filled with the aroma of beach barbeques set up on request for individual get-togethers. If there is a better West Coast vacation spot, we haven't found it.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for an unobstructed view of the beach. Use the private dining room (reservations useful).

Went with the family for a week at the end of March 2014. It was really wonderful. The beach is just perfect the rooms were clean and roomy, the club dining service had great food and would bring it to you right on the beach. I would love to come back during a warmer time. While the kids were fine with wet suits and boogie boarding it could get pretty chilly. I would easily give this place a five star rating if it had a hot tub.

My wife and I were attending a conference at this hotel. My wife was in the conference and I was on my own for recreation. As many other reviewers have noted, the property is unique and has good rooms and some not so good. After reading the reviews, I was hoping for one of those 'good' rooms, but upon arrival was somewhat disappointed.

Lady luck dealt us unit #209, which had a terrific room of the dumpster and adjoining parking lot on the south end of the property near the Marine Room restaurant. The room itself was a little dated, but was very clean. Wi-fi connectivity on this side of the property is terrible. So, if you need an internet connection besides a 3G or 4G signal- you have to leave the room and go closer to the center of the property.

Despite the completely average room, the staff was very good. The food both in the restaurants and banquets was very good, albeit a bit pricy. Check the menu at breakfast... I ordered a grapefruit juice after my breakfast arrived- it was $5.95. I can get a double jack at my club back home for the same price.

The grounds are beautifully manicured all throughout. The beach is fantastic, and the staff does a great job of maintaining it during low tide. During strong high tides, the surf comes almost all the way to the hotel- which can be bothersome if you are just wanting to laze on the sand and the tide is telling you to move.

Overall, pretty good, but not great. Depends on your needs and expectations. It's not the Ritz Carlton, but it's not the motel 6 either.

Biggest downer- no hot tub/jacuzzi.

Room Tip: Try to get something on the beach.

Loved the style of the resort. The beach is awesome. The rooms are clean. Wished we had a kitchenette. Nice staff. Great place for a meeting or family event. We would go back in a heartbeat if we could have the same great room.

Room Tip: Ask for beach front, not parking lot.
