I adore Chinese Food and I can appreciate anything from hard core HOT and Spicy no English Menu authentic to silly Americanized standards. China Chef is a throw back to the Brooklyn neighborhood style Chinese place right down to the decor. Go back in time!
It's very small, quiet and good. Lunch specials start at an astonishing $5.00 and come with choice of very decent Hot & Sour or bright and shiny Egg-drop soup (simple thick and eggy), fried noodles (hilarious old style) and a basic Eggroll that borders the too floury zone (for me) plus choice of rice (steamed or fried plus small supplement if you want excellent brown). There's Teriyaki on the Menu which always makes me want to run but they seem to sell a ton of that delicious Japanese item :-). My favorites are the Shrimp Lobster Sauce-very nice clean properly cooked shrimp with tons of crispy water chestnuts, sizzling rice Soup, KP Chicken or Beef, Mongolian Beef. All the dishes are good or excellent. Mustard, Soy and Siracha at the ready on all the tables in case you want to customize... Vegies are fresh and cooked perfectly. Gluten Free or Vegetarians respected here too! Props!! I'm always impressed by the quality and simplicity of their food-not some master vat of gloppy brown sauce thrown on every dish like "PF so and so" style. '
Not yet taken the dare on Sweet and Sour but clearly they have a fan club on that dish alone. Take out business is brisk, they deliver, and of course Dine in is the best. Lots of Customer/Owner Canto chatter for a truly authentic dining experience.
