This small roadside restaurant is a nice evening out. Dining is available inside and out. Good wine list and happy hour prices. This is a good place for wine and appetizers with friends and even business partners.

After months of waiting, the Vine Cottage is open again with the same menu and the same chef. The food is excellent, but the new owners need to invest in flowers on the table and something to help with the odor of new construction. It looks spartan and they don’t have their liquor license yet, but those are all things that can be fixed with a little thought and time. This was a very popular and beloved spot to dine. It can be again with a little adjustment. Best of luck! We will be back!

When the restaurant is open its great. It has closed and re-opened at least three times. They have been temporarily closed for months and months as of this writing w a paper sign on the door. Seems fishy to me

Gem of a restaurant. We went during restaurant week so the meal was a bargain, I think her normal prices end to be on the high side. Food was great with a gourmet chef.

This little restaurant is a find: a limited but creative menu that is even better in taste than it reads; and warm, exceptional service you usually only find at high end restaurants. I brought a friend here for lunch "to try it out" and we will both return. Between us we ordered the Curried Carrot Bisque soup, which was outstanding in perfectly balanced flavors. I don't usually like bisques but this one made every mouthful a sensory pleasure. The Tuna Salad was a riff on the traditional French Nicoise, with beets replacing the haricots vert beans and it proved to be a wonderful exchange, adding a bit of natural sweetness that complimented the tuna, greens and little potatoes. We had wine, but being unsure which one to order we turned to John, the owner and server for the day, who made suggestions and gave us several tastes before we each decided. He was so happy to do this we were charmed. Dessert was the only disappointment: a chocolate torte that was more a candy than a pastry. But since it was only a $3 addition to the lunch special it was easy to overlook. So, YES! If you are looking for an excellent dining experience in the modest La Mesa area, it is here.
