Description: In 1912, at the bend of Forest Avenue, 23 year old Joe Jahraus opened the Laguna Lumber Company, he and his father(cigar maker, first postmaster and real estate agent) built the beautiful French Normandy building that is here today. Prior to the lumberyard opening, building supplies needed to be dragged in by mule or floated in on the tides, and therefore, Laguna Beach had less than three hundred permanent residences. After the lumberyard opened, the area began to grow at unprecedented rates, transforming it from a tent town into a thriving city. Laguna Lumber operated for seventy three years, sixty two of them in this location and its' architecture, influenced by Joe's tour abroad in World War I, is one of the most significant influences on the town's aesthetic. Half timbers, mud walls and shingled roofs grace many of the downtown storefronts and homes throughout the city because of this landmark. Today, 384 Forest is home to Lumberyard - a contemporary American restaurant.

“Great Food and love the environment”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2013

The place was busy but the hostess seated us quickly. The server was friendly and really knew the menu. Started with the suggested Lumberyard Planks which is a crispy Zuchini, they were great. For dinner I had their special Pan Roasted Diver Scallops & Prawns. It was FANTASTIC! Great service, fun night and will definitely be back.

“Excellent food, beautiful historic building”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 April 2013

Our fish dinner was excellent....sooooo fresh! The historic building is interesting, but the room is a little dark and lacks atmosphere. Make sure to use the Lumberyard parking Lot (we only saw it as we were leaving). Nice wine selection by the glass.

“Back again”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2013

Reviewed in February. Went there last night for a small celebration dinner. 6:30 reservation, lots of open tables and booths, but that may change in tourist season. Brought a bottle of champagne...er, sparkling wine... which they iced immediately.

Drinks and wine while we looked over the menu. Strip steaks for the guys, beef stroganoff and pasta for the ladies. Steaks were 8 oz. which might be small for big eaters. Tasty but not a tender cut, served with asparagus spears and zucchini strips. Stroganoff was generous and she brought some home for lunch.

Ten dollar corkage fee is reasonable. As before, a great place to sit and talk over food. No rush, no noise, lots of room, dark and intimate.

Had the chocolate cake/soufflé for dessert. Good and chocolaty, not the best we've had but a good choice.

Like this place a lot and we will be back.

“A hidden gem....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2013

From the outside not too conspicuous, but the staff and food are top notch. Appetizers (Kung Pao Calamari a must) and salads fresh. Dinner portions are large, including Salmon and Sea Bass. They may have mistaken our order, for 2 of us ordered the Rib steak and were served Top Sirloin (we think). The desserts were outstanding - Banana Bread Pudding, Lava Cake, Peanut Butter Pie, and Burnt Cream all winners.

“Great Food, Lunch and Happy Hour Deals”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2013

The Lumberyard is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is consistently good and the variety is wonderful. Try their lunch deals for $10 or come by during Happy Hour for some tapa style plates and sometimes some music.
