Description: In 1912, at the bend of Forest Avenue, 23 year old Joe Jahraus opened the Laguna Lumber Company, he and his father(cigar maker, first postmaster and real estate agent) built the beautiful French Normandy building that is here today. Prior to the lumberyard opening, building supplies needed to be dragged in by mule or floated in on the tides, and therefore, Laguna Beach had less than three hundred permanent residences. After the lumberyard opened, the area began to grow at unprecedented rates, transforming it from a tent town into a thriving city. Laguna Lumber operated for seventy three years, sixty two of them in this location and its' architecture, influenced by Joe's tour abroad in World War I, is one of the most significant influences on the town's aesthetic. Half timbers, mud walls and shingled roofs grace many of the downtown storefronts and homes throughout the city because of this landmark. Today, 384 Forest is home to Lumberyard - a contemporary American restaurant.

Ate there on a Sunday lunch. Not crowded so noise level was low. We sat is bay window area so it wasn't as dark as other areas noted by other reviews. Food ranged from good to very good. My personal issue was ordering burger medium rare and getting it served medium to well-done. Others in the party though food waa good. You do get adequate quantities of food, regardless of what is ordered.

“Off the beaten path”

Located on Forest Ave. near the fire station, a cozy little restaurant with a friendly vibe. The bar scene is quite active with sports playing on several big screens. I can describe the food as "beach comfort", menu selections include tasty appetizers, soups and salads, burgers seafood and steak as well as a tender and tasty Prime Rib French Dip Sandwich as entrees and the best clam chowder I have tasted in awhile. There is definitely a menu item for everyone. Servers are friendly and efficient. Parking can be a challenge especially on weekends and during the Pageant of the Masters

“Awesome comfort food!”

The Lumberyard offers lots of options from salads to burgers to seafood so you should have no problem finding something to your liking. I had the bacon wrapped meatloaf which was huge, filling and well seasoned. Served over creamy mashed potatoes it had a wonderful "down home" feel and taste. The drinks are good, staff is attentive and prices are reasonable.

“Great food, great service in Laguna Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

We started with the planks appetizer and they were really good. Dinner was great, our table had a steak, the fish special with a mushroom risotto and the Crab Louie Salad. Everyone loved what they ordered. We finished the night sharing a Bread Pudding that was excellent. Great service and the pricing was reasonable for this area
