I first learned about Maro from the appetizers they served at the Green Feast fundraiser for The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano. Giving back to the community pays because that motivated me to have lunch at their restaurant in Laguna Beach recently. It was a rainy day and the umbrellas on the patio need to be adjusted to make sure no one gets a lap full of rainwater when the breeze blows, but that was only a minor distraction as we moved inside for our coffee after the meal. Oh yeah, the meal.
Started with Caprese Empanadas and Spicy Chicken Empanadas. Baked, not fried. Now I can't remember a fried food that I didn't like, but baking these little bread pockets with tasty filling worked just fine. The burgers were cooked just as requested and the patties were very flavorful. Toppings were tasty too. Cole slaw served on the side had a nice bite to it and complemented the drippy burgers just fine. The bread pudding for dessert was the star of the show. Floating in a vanilla flavored cream, both texture and taste were very pleasing. I'll be back! After all, they even have a small parking lot.
