I have explained to people about this attraction but words cannot capture the experience of seeing world famous artworks recreated with human subjects. How the make up and lighting combine to give the actors the look of painted or sculpted artworks is truly worth experiencing at least once. For me this was my third time and still just as interesting. Bring a pair of binoculars to try to capture the blink of an eye or the slight movement of a limb. They are few and far between though. There is also a wonderful art exhibit to be enjoyed beforehand so come a few hours early. You can even have a picnic at the venue and listen to a concert beforehand. A very enjoyable evening.

We go every year - such a treat. Take a day off work, wander the art festivals, the Laguna Beach shops, have lunch and dinner and then go to the pageant. Getting in early also lets you get an adjacent parking space early in the day so when you get out at 10:30 pm or so, it's a quick walk to your car and drive out. It gets cool after dark no matter how warm the day is - bring a blanket or light jacket, maybe wear or change into pants. The seats are metal stadium seats, so not too uncomfortable, but they rent seat cushions, blankets and binoculars if you forget your own. They serve food and drinks inside the venue/art show, and you can take to your seats, too. Get on the mailing list, you might get a few extra opportunities for discounted seats. But if you want something close and in the center, pick your day and buy way in advance!

We attended the Pageant as part of a 50th wedding celebration. There really are no words to describe this event. Famous pieces of art (paintings, sculptures, and even a movie) were brought to live through the music of a live orchestra. I was quite skeptical at first and it started off very slow for me, but once the backstory (works of art confiscated during WW II) was over I began to enjoy the performance for what it was. I enjoyed the infusion of action into the show. Particularly the old car and the Sam Spade character, the how a piece of art comes to life sequence, and the real action theft of the painting. The addition of live action sequences broke up looking at the art continuously. I do not enjoy art museums and don't really understand people who can sit in a museum and 'look at' the art in silence. My family walked around the displays, but we did not find it added to our enjoyment of the evening. I am told it gets quite chilly there and blankets, seat cushions, and binoculars are all available for rent during the performance. I would suggest bringing a jacket and wearing something warmer than shorts.
It was a very unique thing to do in a very unique location. I don't think we would attend a second time, although I understand many people return annually.

Tonight over dinner my husband and I were trying to decide what we would tell our friends about last night's Pageant. It's difficult to adequately describe the concept of famous pieces of art (paintings and sculptures) where human beings are motionless in the key figures. The scrpt, live orchestra and lighting are first rate, and we especially enjoyed the behind the scenes video of how they make it all work.

Two suggestions to help you get the most out of the experience: buy seats in the center of the outdoor amphitheater so you have the best view of the stage, even if it means sitting farther back. Go early to enjoy the free art exhibit and live music before the performance.

Great for all ages... Just go for it.
Check their website for discounted tickets if you are looking inside 3 days...
Pick up some binoculars and a blanket and you are set.
A casual environment so don't worry about bringing your child (it's not as stuffy as some theatres can be but a well behaved child will be more than welcome).
