This beach is definitely where all of the tourists congregate; however, the beach itself is located near some prime shopping and dining areas.

This is a popular beach and is a little more crowded than the other OC beaches. The beach area itself is okay....has a little too much seagrass/seaweed for me. There are tide pools on one side, too. The best part is the surrounding beach town where you can take a break from the sun to eat, shop, browse at art, etc. The nearby Johnny Rockets is a good place to grab a quick bite, although it's small inside and finding a seat is difficult. Overall, a fun place to spend a sunny day.

During the summer this place is mobbed, especially on weekends. I guess that's to be expected. But since there is only a limited amount of beach sand available, it can be hard to find a spot. We marked in the Act V lot, for $7 and took the trolley down. It was better than paying for 3 hour limits, closer to the beach. Who wants to move their car during the day?

There's a nice walkway between Main Beach and Heisler Park. Very pretty views. Definitely take that walk. Seems walking was the way to go here, not biking as most bikes end up only on streets. We didn't see a stand that allowed biking like some of the other So Cal beaches.

But the #1 reason we enjoyed our trip to Laguna during summer is the free shuttle. They start it up end of June and run through end of August. It takes you from various parking lots to the main shopping area, to up and down HWY 1. You have to get off at the metro transit area to catch the North or South trolley. The North ride is pretty short. Maybe 30 minutes round trip (going as far as Crescent Beach.) This trip is more enjoyable than the South trolley. Though we are glad we did both. There just happened to be a lot of traffic that day. Normally South takes one hour round trip (landing as far as Dana Point's Ritz Carlton Hotel.) Our day it took about 90 minutes because of traffic.

And one thing we must say about Laguna Tourism. They have some great people working for them. One girl, Sara, was working the main transit system stop where you transfer trolleys. She knew those of us waiting for the South line had been waiting far more than the 20 minute wait. She asked a North trolley to change course because quite a few had already been by so we wouldn't have to wait anymore. And the trolley driver, who was supposed to be going on break, agreed to take all of us. And you know what? That meant waiting an extra 90 minutes for his break. What a blessing it was to the tourists. This kind of hospitality is pretty unusual. I hope whoever employs them appreciates them.

The shops around Main Beach are cute and fun. Lots of choices to eat and eclectic shops to explore. Fun day. I just think another time I'd rather go in off season. But that means they probably don't have the trolley, which was a terrific way to see the area without being the driver.

Parking may be a pain at this beach. But they do have lots of public bathrooms available.

This beach has basketball, volleyball, wide expanses, and tidepools for watching the sea life. Nearby restaurants offer affordable options.
