“Once a year!”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

This is our go to place once a year when we attend the extraordinary Pageant of the Masters. The staff is always friendly and we've never had any complaints in all the years we've been coming. The beds and pillows are perfect, there's a fridge, microwave, room safe, plenty of free parking, an elevator, in room coffee, continental breakfast, multiple TV channels, good lighting, free wifi, nice granite sink/vanity, toiletries, plenty of space to set your things, and it's fairly quiet. I slept till 8:00 this morning, but I do wear earplugs when away from home. Yesterday the pool wasn't that crowded in spite of it being July. It's an older property but very clean and the rooms look updated. Some rooms are near a busy street so there is traffic noise during the day, but the traffic is light during the night. This is also very affordable for the area and nicer than some of the same price options.

Stayed 6 nights at the Laguna Hills Lodge… had a second floor room. Property is lovely, the room was clean and very comfortable. Nice to have a fridge in the room. The breakfast was good, although no hot food available. When we arrived, we were given a breakfast "voucher" for each morning of our visit. However, on our 3rd morning, we were told by one of the workers at breakfast that we needed a voucher for each of us. We were told we only needed one - so we had to go back to the front desk and explain that we needed more vouchers. They didn't hesitate to give us more, but we should have been given 2 per day in the beginning. Other than this one issue, the visit was great. Used the pool a few times - pretty much had the place to ourselves. Also used the laundry, which is near the pool area. Great rates for a great location.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful review of our hotel. We are happy you enjoyed your stay at the Lodge. We just want to apologize again for the mix up with your breakfast vouchers. We are glad it was easily resolved and are also glad you let us know that you had a problem. Thank you again for your positive and constructive comments.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to this area. Our friend recommended this hotel to us and we would definitely recommend this establishment to other people. We were pleased with all aspects of the services received. We appreciated the coupons for nearby restaurants.

I will definitely stay at this lovely property again . The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was wonderful, great size, very clean and the breakfast was awesome! Very centrally located for my stay as I was never far from Newport, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Mission Viejo...and VERY reasonable rates.

Room Tip: I had a corner room which was quiet and very nice.

We stayed at laguna Hills lodge for one night. The check-in desk clerk was very nice. Our room faced out to Paseo de Valencia. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom is a tight squeeze but we managed. The mini fridge/freezer was turned off when we arrived ...once we turned it on we realized why it was turned off.....it hummed pretty loudly. The AC unit was a bit loud, too. Thankfully, we only needed the AC on for a short time but we could hear the unit in the room next to us. Glad we are good sleepers as it probably would have kept most people up.
We were awakened at 8am by a fire engine siren. The fire station is right across the street. We laughed because 8am was the exact time we wanted to get up so the siren was like an alarm clock. Glad it was a quiet night for the station...not sure we would have enjoyed hearing the siren in the middle of the night...once or several times.
Breakfast was nice...cereal, fruit, juice/coffee, yogurt, and hard boiled eggs. There were 2 nice ladies who would also make toast or bagels for you...or get you a muffin. They were very hard working.
Overall, it was a good stay and we would definitely return. We would probably bring ear plugs just in case but we would return.

Room Tip: Getting a room that doesn't face out on Paseo de Valencia might help muffle the siren if a fire...

Thank you for writing such a positive review on your experience staying at our hotel. We really appreciate all of the wonderful guests who take the time to tell others they enjoyed their visit with us.

We wanted to comment on your observation that your AC and room refrigerator were noisy. If any guest has a problem with a noisy appliance, please call the Front Desk and they will send a maintenance team member to your room to troubleshoot. If they cannot solve the problem, we have extra ACs and refrigerators we can easily install in your room. All of our ACs are just three years old and shouldn't be noisy. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused you.

Again, thank you so much for your review.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Okay so here are the minor reasons that I could live with: dingy, old, no amenities. Here are the reasons that are really annoying and unacceptable: staff including and especially the manager Roland has a very nasty attitude in which the guest is always wrong. Here is the reason that makes this a "run as fast as you can and don't book here": the room was filthy. There was literally a pile of trash in about 3 spots in the room when we checked in including a soap covered in hair and pills on the floor in plain view. My feeling is that if I can see the dirt then there is definitely microscopic dirt that I can not see. When I complained to Roland he claimed that I was lying, took a nasty attitude with me (this was after another staff at his direction accused other adults in my party of stealing towels) and reluctantly offered to take $20 off of one night at the hotel. We all make mistakes, it's how we rectify those mistakes and the attitude we take when called on them that speaks to our integrity. Laguna Lodge is sorely lacking. We had a dozen rooms booked for a wedding party and could not have been more embarrassed and unhappy. I hope the owner of this "family owned hotel" reads this review and is mortified by the behavior of its manager and staff.

We have read your review and are delighted that you have provided us with the opportunity to respond publicly.

While it is true that the Laguna Hills Lodge is historically the original hotel in the area, it was completely remodeled in 2009 and is constantly being updated.

Our amenities include free parking, free high-speed Wi-Fi, beautiful pool and spa, saunas, fitness center and many other amenities that are listed on our website and other travel sites.

Regarding your complaint to our Front Desk that your room was dirty, our staff responded immediately by contacting the maid (a senior employee of 20 years) who cleaned your room. She reported that it was clean. We then also had our housekeeping supervisor (with over 30 years’ experience at the Lodge) inspect your room and she confirmed that it was clean.

As evidenced by the hundreds of reviews on Trip Advisor and other travel sites, room cleanliness is a consistent compliment we receive from our guests from all over the world.

You and your guests did use a much larger number of towels than is usual. Our Front Desk does keep track of towel usage to make sure enough towels are available at all times for all of our guests. You seemed to have gotten a wrong impression that someone on our staff accused you of stealing towels. To the best of our knowledge, this is not true and certainly would never reflect behavior we would condone on our property.

As owners, we were happy that our staff tried to accommodate you by offering a room discount. We are sorry you felt that your stay was unsatisfactory.

We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the Laguna Hills Lodge. Upon arrival the room was spotless, and it was kept that way daily. The manager, Roland, was very accommodating in arranging for a necessary first floor room. The king-sized bed was excellent quality, as were the linens and towels. The included continental breakfast was more than adequate. Some hotels equate continental with just pastries, but Laguna Hills Lodge includes a variety of cold cereals, muffins, pastries, hard boiled eggs, bagels, toast, and more. The breakfast room was a bit on the small side and could be crowded, so several mornings we had to take our food back to our room. The location of the hotel was excellent, and we were, for the most part, undisturbed by other guests. My only criticism is in regard to a common hotel room design -- the tub/shower and toilet are separated from the sink which is open to the room. I really dislike this setup as it precludes any form of privacy while at the sink. This was compounded by it being next to double mirrored closet doors which reflected into the bedroom. But this design is not particular to Laguna Hills Lodge. Our room included a large closet, a safe, a microwave and a refrigerator/freezer. We will definitely stay here again when we return to this area.
