“We had a great fall getaway in this HUGE cabin!”
Reviewed 9 October 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Our group of friends takes a trip to Big Bear every year, but this year we decided to switch it up and try Lake Arrowhead and we are so glad we did. The town was adorable, and unlike Big Bear it was RIGHT on the lake. As a bonus, Oktoberfest was going on, which was a lot fun.

The cabin was huge! So much space inside and out. We loved every second of our stay here and will be coming again! It's a perfect place for a weekend getaway or even full week vacation for a large family or group.

The company we booked through, Lake Arrowhead Retreats, was super friendly and helpful. Grant emailed me back within minutes every time I had a question.

The only downfall is the persons limit (10 person max). The place has plenty of space for at least 12 people, and we wish we could have brought a few more. They say it's a city ordinance, but still a bummer.

“Best Summer Weekend Getaway”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

For the 2nd year in a row, a large group of friends took a long weekend getaway to Lake Arrowhead. This year, we were lucky enough to be able to book the Lakeview Lodge. This house is 1. gigantic 2. well stocked 3. wonderful. There is plenty of space for everyone to spread out. There are large dining tables inside and outside, so it's great for group meals and games. There are plenty of dishes and every kitchen gadget you could want. And, the house comes with 2 passes to a local private beach! Each pass includes 6 people, so your whole group can enjoy the the lake. Not to mention the fact that there is a fooseball table, a pool table, and a ping pong table. You cannot be bored here. The views off of the top deck are absolutely divine - great for morning coffee or a cocktail at dusk. We had the best time and will definitely book this house again next summer.

We were so excited to stay in what seemed to be a HUGE and well maintained lodge but were disappointed once we finally arrived. First of all, finding the place was not easy as our GPS took us to a totally different area in Arrowhead. We called Grant and asked him how to get to the cabin from where we were, he rudely told us to follow the directions that were emailed to us, this was only after he asked us which property we were trying to find, I guess he manages more than one property and probably doesn't know himself how to get there from where we were. I ended up downloading a map on my phone which finally got us to the cabin. The road to the cabin, and the driveway are in terrible condition and VERY narrow, God help you if someone is coming from the other direction. The entire house is on a very steep incline, so you have to be careful when getting in and out of your car and walking up to the house. I can't imagine how treacherous it would be in icy conditions. Once inside we were quite surprised at how tiny it was compared to the online photos, rooms that look massive online are in fact quite small and very outdated. The tile in the bathrooms looks dirty and needs to be redone. We paid a hefty cleaning fee but were still required per a full page in the notebook in the lodge on how to clean the cabin and what was expected of guests prior to vacating, which included cleaning any and all dishes, silverware, pots, pans etc, wiping down the counters, emptying all trash bins, and sorting recycled products, and on trash pick up day taking the bins to the roadside for pick up (why did we pay a large cleaning fee if we have to clean the place ourselves?) Our family is naturally tidy anyway but felt this was excessive since we had paid to have the place cleaned by someone other than ourselves. The information we were given on what amenities were provided stated that firewood was provided, however, there was not one stick of firewood in the entire cabin, so we had to purchase our own. The entire cabin is very poorly lit, it was so dim in the rooms and there were no overhead lights to brighten it up. On our last night there we discovered that the sliding glass door on the upper deck does not lock!! This was not reassuring to know and should have been told to us prior to check in. We spent the entire night listening to make sure no one was gaining access to the cabin. We tried to barricade it as best we could but since the doors are installed backwards with the track on the outside it was difficult to secure. We emailed Grant and told him of the security issue and received no response whatsoever. In fact, Grant didn't respond to any of the issues we brought to his attention. As far as Lake views, well I guess that's up to interpretation, because you really have to strain to see the lake from the 3rd floor balcony, the 2nd floor balcony has views of trees only, hardly Lake view and misrepresentation in our opinion. Overall, we were very disappointed in the cabin and the lack of help from Grant, both in trying to find the place and in responding to the issues we brought to his attention. We would not stay here again and are perplexed at all of the rave reviews by other travelers.

Management Response
6 Mar 2014
Sorry to hear that you were disappointed. We do have a lot of positive reviews from our guests, who loved their stay with us and we have a lot of repeat business. So in fairness, let me respond in order to the comments made that I feel are highly exaggerated. We provide a 4 page pre-arrival information email that gives directions down to the 1/10 of a mile instructions. We have never had anyone not find our property based on our directions. We do have multiple properties in Lake Arrowhead, so when I was called with them lost, I did need to know what property they were going to. They were rude on the phone and couldn't explain where they were, so I asked if they had the directions that we had sent them….they said yes. So I asked them to follow the directions that we had provided and they would find it without problem. The majority of the houses in Lake Arrowhead are on a slope (it is the mountains), and this property is not severe as described. There is a private single lane access road that leads to our property…so the comments about being very narrow and in terrible condition are exaggerated. It is not a 2 lane highway to the front door. We were never contacted during their stay about any of the concerns listed. An negative email was sent after the stay which makes it hard to fix anything after the fact. There is a huge pile of firewood on the side of the garage for guests to help themselves to, so there was plenty of firewood. There is overhead lighting in the living room, kitchen, dining room, game room, etc…so not sure I understand the comments about no light. You can see the lighting throughout the home in the photos. In regard to cleaning, asking to put the dishes in the dishwasher and take the trash out is not a lot to ask. Our cleaning crew does all the laundry of all the bedding on 3 levels, all the towels, cleans the bathrooms, kitchen, all flooring, etc. The lock on the slider not working we were unaware of. It has been fixed after their stay. With that said, it is a slider on a deck 3 stories off the ground in a very safe neighborhood. No one would attempt to scale 3 stories to get to this deck and come through that door. The comments of needing to barricade themselves in and not being able to sleep is unfortunate and seems a bit paranoid. The views of the lake are described on our website and the photos are real. During the summer the Oak trees grow their leaves and partially obstruct the views compared to winter. My wife and I do our best to provide a great experience for our guests and in over 1,000 reservations among all of our properties this is the first negative review about me personally. I could tell from the demeanor on the first phone call, that this guest was not a good fit for us before they even arrived at the property…which is rare and unfortunate.

“Had a really nice stay in this 'cabin'...”
Reviewed 19 May 2013 for a stay in May 2013

My wife and I just spent a couple of days in this ‘cabin’ (it’s kind of big for that name) and were very happy with it. It was just the two of us so it was VERY spacious. It says it sleeps 22; not quite sure how that works – but there are 3 very nice bedrooms with queens beds, and then a 4th bedroom in the basement with 4 bunk beds. If you have kids – this is definitely the place to go since they will be downstairs in their own space leaving you to yourself. Not only that – but there is an old-school big screen and a pool table in the downstairs family room, a high def big screen in the living room, and a high def big screen in the upstairs master bedroom (didn’t notice what was in the other 2 bedrooms), so need to argue about what to watch. The wi-fi is real strong too..

There’s 2 large balconies with a BBQ – and the view is really great. You can, technically, see the lake – but mostly you see the valley – and the sunsets were awesome. The kitchen is big, and well-stocked with spices, utensils, etc.

We’d definitely go here again; The price is pretty good considering the size, and we were lucky enough to get a Living Social Deal.
One suggestion: Bring a paper map along with your GPS. My GPS had a difficult time in the Arrowhead area. Took us on a bit of a goose chase. Once I had a regular map to verify where I really was – we were all good…
