First time in the Shasta Lake Area and decided to stay at the Lakehead Lodge because of all the nice things folks had to say.It is one of the older places in the area but you can see all the hard work which has been done here. Jim was awesome.Gave us some charcoal ( he had extra) for the BBQ grills, and plenty of tips for seeing the local area. He even gave us some fresh tomatoes and zucchini from his garden. Yumtastic ! The room was just as described, super clean with wood floors ( NO NASTY CARPET !!!) and an awesome a/c unit. Lots of towels and great wi-fi. Just wish our stay could have been longer. My wife is already planning next years trip. We'll see you then P.S. Thanks for the REVIEW IT business card. Nice touch.

Room Tip: Room #7 is right by the picnic area with the tables

There aren't many places to stay around here if you are passing through. trip Advisor ranks this as number 1 , so we were hoping for a little diamond in the rough. Not exactly. Communicating with the owner is a difficult experience...see other reviews for experiences similar to ours. It made us feel uneasy. The room was basic and what you'd expect for the money and location. There was obvious effort put into making it as clean as possible. The bed was a lumpy, dumpy nightmare so even after we blasted the AC to cover freeway and train noise we had very little sleep. It was a strange night.

We at the Lakehead Lodge are certainly glad that you stopped in and apologize for any communication issues you might have had. We appreciated that you noted the cleanliness of the room. Sorry that you didnt have a good nights rest. Most guests seem to enjoy the firm mattresses. It is unfortunate to hear that the occasional train disturbed you. They only run a few times a day and the distant train whistle just seems to not even bother many people. Most guests, at night ,close their windows and put on the a/c. Perhaps we will see you again !

We heard about this place on TripAdvisor while searching for good places to stop off on a long drive to Shasta. It is located in the mountains north of Redding. Once you leave Redding there are not many places to stop for lodging before Mount Shasta. We pulled up around 11 PM or maybe later, the office was locked, we rang the bell and a guy named Jim answered the door in his bathrobe. We asked what kind of rooms he had, he said two queens or a king. I asked him the prices and he was short with me as he pointed to a paper listing the prices behind me in a very small office (standing room only). We had a strange conversation where he said we had a choice of a king or two queens but when I asked for a king he insisted we take two queens. My husband and I were a little uncomfortable we had tried to be friendly upon entering the office by asking if we had woke him. He shrugged and said he is awake all the time. My husband asked about the garages attached to some of the rooms and Jim belted out, "Those are not available, those are mine." As he handed us our key he indicated that we should "go around back" and something about keeping people apart as much as possible for a quiet factor. We went around back and there was nothing but an empty gravel lot. The only rooms are the ones in front attached to his office. We ended up driving back around front and looking at the room numbers in order to find our room.

The room was clean with hardwood floor, something I have never seen, and two queens, an old but working air conditioner, a small fridge, coffee maker, shower (no tub), TV with a few local channels, alarm clock, and lamps and a table with two chairs. We were satisfied with the room and recognized that it was fairly nice considering the options in the area and the location. There looks to be about eight or ten rooms, four or five face another four or five, ground floor with little porches in front. There looked to be two other rooms in use when we arrived and a fourth party arrived later after us.

It was NOISY. We did not hear our neighbors. The roar was the highway in front of the lodge and railroad tracks running behind. At one point I wanted to ask my husband if he thought there was also an airport nearby because I would have sworn I heard a 747 fly low overhead.

Jim was much nicer the next morning and chatted with us briefly about his cats outside before we checked out.

I would definitely stop here again. Though it was not what one would traditionally expect, given the location and the price we found it was a fair choice.

We want to thank you folks for your stay here at the Lakehead Lodge. I sure didnt mean to be curt with you so late in the evening. We normally dont show rooms to possible guests after dark for security reasons but we did make an exception for you guys after your repeated insistence. I apologize for not explaining to you about the garages in a more subserviant manner.I think I was still a little sleepy. Im sorry there was some kind of miscommunication in regards to bed size. We dont even have any king size beds, only a choice of one or two queens, or a queen and a twin. I dont know why you thought I told you to go around the back of the building. There are no rooms there, only parking for boats. I did tell you that you were going to be in room 10, that it would be the room with the big (10) by the door, the same as the number on the key ring. Sorry for the confusion.
Im glad to hear that you appreciated the wood flooring in the rooms. Super clean for our guests and super easy maintenance. The a/c in the room is a window type unit, installed through the rear wall. It is about 5 years old (certainly not too old) , 12,000 BTU's and rated for a room twice the size as the one it is in. We want to ensure that our guests are cool in the awesome heat of the Shata Lake summers. I apologize for the road noise and the train. We dont normally hear the train because it is about 1000 feet from the motel to the east but I suppose some people are really sensitive to noise. I would have turned the a/c on and put the fan on to provide some lovely white noise noise, but thats just me.
We at the Lakehead Lodge appreciate you stopping by and are glad to hear that you did appreciate the cleanliness of our rooms and the fair price. Come back and see us again, even after dark !

My dad and I drove up from So Cal for a family reunion at Lakehead. Cleanliness is very important to both of us and the lodge fit the bill in this regard. The accommodations are a bit dated, however, it added to the charm of the establishment. The lodge is very well cared for and it looked as though the roofs were just redone.

Our room (No. 10) was equipped with a refridgerator, microwave and small TV. We were afforded plenty of clean towels and wash cloths. As most of our time was spent at a nearby campground, it wasn't necessary to be provided with the most up to date cooler/ heating systems. As long was they were functional. We used both the heater and air conditioner and they worked just fine.

Beds were comfortable and the linen was fresh. The only reason we didn't rate this excellent was due to the alarm clock on the clock radio being inoperative (for getting us up early for family outings) and the 'dust bunnies' under the bed. Other options such as ironing boards, hair dryers, etc. were missing, but, the low price of our stay made up for the lack of the extras.

However, overall, we were pleased and we would definitely visit again. Other lodging options in Redding are just too far for daily trips to the lake and back.

Keep up the great job, Jim, and see you next time!

We are glad to read that you and you Father had a pleasant time at the Lakehad Lodge. We always attempt to provide the best value possible with peaceful, clean, functional rooms, nice mattresses, and lovely fluffy towels which are often better than you would find in ANY lodging facility.
You are correct about the alarm clock. We are so sorry it did not work for you. We could not even set it ourselves and rest assurred, it has already been recycled. We are so suprised that no guest has told us of this problem and it had been taken care of. Any "dust bunnies " under the bed have been eliminated. We are still pleased to offer hypo allergenic pergo type wood flooring for all of our guests which help eliminate the question of " I wonder what is on this carpet", we dont have any carpet !!!
We apologize that we dont offer too many extras but in this economy, we attempt to keep our prices affordable for the average traveler. Often clean, affordable lodging trumps a blow dryer everytime !
Once again, we would like to thank you for staying here at the Lakehead Lodge. We will keep a big yellow sign on for you !!

We were interested in a place close to Redding, one that took pets, was clean and reasonably priced. The outstanding reviews and location of Lakehead Lodge in the mountains, north of Redding, piqued our interest. Unfortunately, our impressions of this motel were not as rave as previous reviewers'.

The host, Jim, was very personable. As mentioned by others, reservations are not an option and we paid to hold the room for our late arrival.

The small to average sized room had a microwave, refrigerator, TV, small table with two old hardback chairs, and a large, really beat-up wood dresser ("shabby chic"?). In general, the place looked extremely old, even with a facelift of new paint in white and a loud but cheerful green, and new-looking but noisy laminate floors (our dog's feet). The closet was a short rod and shelf over the microwave that sat on the fridge. Cleanliness was so-so: the room looked clean on first impression, but the pillows were not as fresh as they should have been, and the bathroom baseboards were dirty. We are passionate about good sanitation of bed and bath linens, porcelain and faucets, light switches, doorknobs and such. If the pillows, sheets, or blankets smell anything but freshly laundered, we won't be back!

When we first arrived, the room was very cold - the window had been left open, but the room warmed up fairly quickly when we turned on the only heater. The beds were too soft for our taste, but they weren't bad either. The cramped bathroom lacked places to put things like toiletries and hanging towels, and it had no heat source. As the night temperatures dropped, the wall heater required us to get up during the night to increase the heat setting. Brrr. It had no thermostat, just a rotary dial. Outside was a large grassy, treed area to picnic or walk about. The motel faces the I-5 freeway, but our room in the back was quiet.

We want to thank you folks for staying at the Lakehead Lodge. We hope that all of our guests enjoy their stay. We want to apologize for any lax housekeeping issues that you may have encountered. They have been addressed. Let us assure you that the pillows are newer and may smell that they just came out of the bag.
The dresser is only a few years old with no wear because traveleres seldom unload all their belonging. We do apologize if you didnt like the style of the furnishings. The room does not have a "closet" because we are an older "motor court " style motel but there is definetly an area in which to hang clothes and the hangars are already provided.
We apologize that you did not appreciate the clean, hypo allergenic pergo wood flooring. Most guests love the fact that there is no dirty carpet. I do understand that you may have felt that they were noisy due to the toenails noise (clicks) from your two Saint Bernards. We have a cat with non retractable claws and he makes the same noise in our house. LOL !
We are glad that the heater warmed the room up for you quickly. They work quite well. The reason you had to turn it up higher is because the temp dropped to freezing and the internal thermostat of the fan forced wall heater turns itself off after reaching a confortable temp.
The room you stayed in ,#8 is a cozy room so there is not a heater in the bathroom. There are no less than (3) towel racks, which hold all the (12) towels (4 of each style) in the bathroom and a robe hook on the back of the door. There is also a small, wooden shelf mounted on the wall for your personal toiletries. (I actually made them myself!)
We realize that we are not the Venitian or the Bellagio but try to offer a nice room at a competative rate. Perhaps your next stay will be better. Dont forget to bring those huge dogs with you !

My family and I absolutely love the Lakehead Lodge. This was our first visit and we were very impressed. The rooms are very clean and well maintained. The rec room and BBQ/picnic area are great, especially with the kids (felt like BBQ'ing at home while the kids played). The Lodge is managed, maintained, and housekept by Jim who is the owner. Not only is he a super nice guy, but he really does everything he can to make sure your stay is perfect...and perfect it was!!

We stayed at the Lakehead Lodge for 2 nights this July, on a family road trip with our 3 young children down the west coast of America. The lodge itself is beautifully maintained and the rooms were clean and very comfortable. Jim, the owner, made us feel very welcome and was only too happy to answer any questions we had. The Lodge is in a great location , very close to Shasta Lake and the awesome Shasta Dam. Would highly recommend the Lakehead Lodge to any one visiting the area. A big thanks to Jim for your generous hospitality.
