“Amazing Meat and Vegetables”
Reviewed 11 November 2013 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

This is our favorite place in Marin now. Same or better quality meat than in a top steak house and the broccoli is just amazing. The meat platter is special and you can share it with 3-4 people.
They also take care of the little ones!

“Meat lovers will enjoy this”
Reviewed 19 August 2013

This is basically a butchers with a restaurant attached and is unabashedly a meat establishment, very little options for vegetarians, nor fancy presentation or sauces.

The emphasis on meat is rewarded with excellent cuts served perfectly.

My wife and I started by sharing the carpaccio; perfectly tender served with olive oil, sea salt and delicious arugula. I had the lamb chop, served on the rare side of medium rare, tender, moist and with a distinctive taste of lamb. My wife elected the Mustard Greens salad with the addition of seared sirloin, served sliced and on the medium side of medium rare. The dishes do not include any sides. We elected to share the french fries ($4) which were very tasty, no hint of oiliness, but weren't quite hot enough for my tastes, they may possibly have sat around a little too long. We also shared the Broccolino, deep fried and perfectly cooked to my taste (firm), served with lemon sage and red pepper flakes; this is a major hit.

They serve a couple of local beers on draft and have a limited wine list with prices typical of this area; $7 to $13 per glass. We selected "Urban Legend" from Oakland, an excellent red wine offered at $11 per glass ($24 per bottle on the winery's Web site).

The restaurant is located in an open air shopping center (Marin Country Mart at Larkspur Landing) and is a little difficult to characterize. The front area is dedicated to the butcher's shop with the restaurant beyond. There is no bar but there is seating at the counter overlooking the kitchen (about 10 seats). In addition there are about 20 two and four seat tables and approximately six family style tables seating 8 or 10 customers. We were there on a Friday night and families with young children were in evidence (Friday is Jazz night at Country Mart so families abounded). The interior is industrial, more functional than elegant or trendy with high ceilings and hard surfaces that make for a fairly noisy environment; not a spot for a romantic dinner.

For three glasses of wine, one beer, Carpaccio, salad with steak, two side dishes and the lamb entree the cost was $99, including tax but excluding tip.

For visitors to San Francisco an excellent way to sample this restaurant is to take the Golden Gate ferry from the Ferry Building to Larkspur, walk over to the restaurant (5 minutes) enjoy a leisurely lunch or early dinner while sitting outside and watching the ferries arrive and depart. Return via ferry to San Francisco whilst enjoying the views of Angel Island, Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge and the city from the vantage point of the water.
