“Not worth it”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

I camped here as part of a family reunion with about 30 people. The resort is pretty expensive for what you get. We had campsite number 1 which is deemed a group camp site and costs $60. The number 1 and 2 sites are fairly secluded, but 1/3 of the site is rock. The rest of the site is usable but rocky.

They have a decent kids playground and pool. Both were packed all weekend. The pool was at capacity every time we tried to use it. The bathrooms are cramped and moldy. Very little privacy with chest level windows that are always open to try and air the place out. At least the doors work on the toilet stalls. My 3 year-old got hit by hot water leaking from the shower knob. He was not happy.

The resort has a 350 yard hike to the Eel river. Not so bad going down, but if you are out of shape and wet, you won't like coming back. Be sure to look out for wildlife down there. We saw a couple of baby rattlers. We ended up going down the road (south) 3 miles to the Smithe Redwoods State Reserve. A better beach without the crazy hike. Keep your eyes open for the turnout parking on the west side of the road. We missed it twice.

There was a loud party on Saturday which meant the whole campground was subjected to bad Karaoke. Everything quieted down about 11pm at which point my kids were able to go to sleep.

There was little flexibility by the staff and management. We had some guests to the park that had to pay for a site because the staff deemed the park too full to issue any more day passes.

I guess the state parks have spoiled me, but at $60 a night, this wasn't worth it.

Room Tip: Stick to the higher numbered campsites or campsites 3 & 4

Perhaps as an RV site or campground this is a good place to stay, but as a hotel/motel, it is not! Upon our arrival, our check-in was rushed because the attendant on duty was more interested in going home for the night than getting us settled in. The grounds are dark and finding our room was a bit of a challenge. We specifically spoke to the attendant about wireless internet availability and he confirmed it was available for a few. However, he neglected to tell us that we needed to purchase a userid and password from him. By the time we found this out, the office was closed and he was long gone. I wish that was my only concern. While the room was clean and functional, there is no HVAC. No problem, expect there is no way to latch the screen door, so basically, you're sleeping all night with the door open to get some air and the ability for anyone to just walk right into your room. Huh? Also, the outside light was not working, so getting the key into the sliding door lock was quite a challenge.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

The RV sites are about half pull thought and the rest are easy to back into. Large sites with picnic tables and fire rings. The river is 350 yards down a wide path and is beautiful once you get there. Benches are provided for your rest on the way back and you will appreciate them! The playground fort is huge and awesome! Pool is brisk but nice. Bathrooms are maintained but getting worn. Confusion hill is across the street.

Stayed for 2 nights in late May 2013 in a travel trailer. There were very few visitors and we enjoyed having the place virtually to ourselves! The trees are very impressive and its fun to have such easy access to them. The river is very secluded and fun to visit. Again, we were the only people down at the river and it was very tranquil. Swimming in the river was great! The hike down to the river is listed as a moderate 350 yards, but the hike back up is enough to make you take a rest a couple times during the journey.

We have traveled quite extensively and there were a couple of annoyances. First, we paid over $150 to stay 2 nights. The base rate is quite expensive, then the additional charges for 2 kids and 2 dogs seemed like gouging. In addition, our electric hook up caused the A/C and mircowave to strain for more power. We were afraid of damaging our trailer, so we limited use of both during the stay. The $3 per day charge for WIFI was annoying. Then, we learned the WIFI charge was for only 1 device. We felt like we were being nickle-and-dimed. We left a day earlier than planned simply because we felt we had experienced pretty much everything within 36 hours. This is a remote location and the nearest diesel was 12 miles away.

Overall, we had a good stay (albeit expensive). We were staying here between Yosemite and the Oregon coast, so it was merely a stopping point.

This is the 3rd year that we thoroughly enjoyed Redwoods River Resort. We have a 30 Ft. Class "A" Motorhome. When we book our stay, we usually get two sites next to each other because other friends and relatives that come up usually "tent" camp right next to us in our RV site at our Annual Family Reunion Camping Trip. People here are very friendly and helpful and there are a lot of things to do to keep the "kids" busy around here. Most sites here are pretty shaded by tall redwood trees making RRR the BEST place to spend our Family Reunion. I'm sure we will return here again soon!!!

Room Tip: Any RV site is a winner at Redwoods River Resort

We stayed for 4 days staying in our 26ft that pulled 16ft trailer with 2 older teenagers, who explored every corner & crevice & climbed every tree & rock for miles around.
We came for the Redwood Run, (a motorcycle event) & decided to stay here because of the kids. We are totally planning on returning to this resort and have shared its location with many others. Location is right across the street from the famous "Mystery Spot" and right on the Eel River, although it's a hike to get down there; but its a lovely hike!
Everyone there is so friendly and helpful, they treated us like family, and always had hot coffee ready in their little country store where you check in/out.
Trust me, you will totally want to stay more then a day here!

Room Tip: There are quite a few RV & tent spaces, they also have Cabins & Hotel rooms... honestly this...

We loved our stay here.

When we arrived there was a bit of a hitch because the owner was ill and her son didn't answer the intercom. It was only about 6pm so we knocked and rang the bell a few times and the owner answered the door to us apologising that her son hadn't come across!

Checkin was easy from that point on, and we were given a fantastic list of things to do in the area.

Our motel room was spacious and had a great little kitchenette with all the items you could possibly need to cook a good meal. The bed was fairly comfortable and the bathroom was clean and the shower powerful.

The location of the resort is perfect for visiting the Redwoods, driving the Avenue of the Giants etc.

The only downside after checkin was that on our last night the guests in the room above us were quite noisy walking around, but it wasn't a big problem.

Loved the experience and would definitely visit again if we're ever in the area.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper and/or it's busy, perhaps ask for an upstairs room.
