Sharon and Higgins were great. We really enjoyed our stay, with the in-bungalow breakfast basket, fireplace, and private view of the countryside. The restaurant next door was excellent as well.

On a whim on a Wednesday we decided to head to the Mendocino coast for a weekend away. Our last trip up there had been several years earlier. I came across the Glendeven Inn via Mendocino.com filtering by hotels with internet access. The Glendeven inn website allowed me to view the rooms and availability of each room in detail including rates (which is very important information for specialtiy hotel webmasters to include) and because it was so close to the weekend, I called to confirm availability and book. The person who answered was very polite and was dealing with another enquiry, so they offered to call me back within 10 minutes rather than have me sit on hold. 6 minutes later I receive a call back from a very pleasant woman who confirmed my request and made my reservation. Many of the hotels/inns in the area were fully booked, so I felt lucky to have found a room which looked decent!
When we arrived on Friday afternoon we realized that "decent" was an understatement. When we arrived we were immediately greeted by John who introduced himself as the new owner, having closed on the sale only two weeks prior. He handled our checkin quickly and then gave us information about the inn, activities and restaurants in the area and volunteered to make a restaurant reservation for us. He then took us around the property and finally to our room--which was incredible. We stayed in the Pinewood room, which is a large room with a king bed, a fireplace and seating area, a desk, a dining table overlooking the property (and ocean in the distance) and another seating area as well as a small patio with a distant ocean view. The room was way beyond our expectations. We unpacked and tested out the Wireless internet access, which was broadcasting from right near our room in a common refrigerator/sink area for use by guests (which came in handy for wine and cheese and snacks). The wireless internet was fast and the signal was strong and served our needs to stay in touch. We also read some of the guest journal entries from the journals left in the room for future guests to enjoy.
We joined John and several other guests for the nightly wine reception (a local Mendocino Winery was featured) and had a great conversation with John and his experiences leading up to purchasing the inn.
Right next door to the Glendeven Inn via a path is another Inn (Stevenswood) with a 5 star restaurant, however on the first night we ended up at the Mendocino Inn downtown for dinner which was very good. Last time we were there the dining room was flooded from storms and they still put out a good meal so we thought we'd try it with electricity and dry floors and were not disappointed. We also dined at the Moosse Cafe downtown (very good lunch, they also serve dinner) and the Little River Inn, which was good food but service was a little rushed. The downtown area of Mendocino is about 2 miles up Highway 1 so it's very well located for exploring the area.
The breakfast at the Glendeven served right in our room was delicious both days and right on time at 9AM. Everything we needed was in the basket, including hot coffee and specialty juice (we selected preferred beverages on check-in).
During our stay John let us know that the first website upgrade was completed, retaining the complete information (availability by room, rates, pictures, etc) with a new look. You can book your stay online and eventually even last minute bookings will be able to be done online, which is my preference. The website is [--]
The whole weekend was a delightful experience and we intend to return. The new owner John was a gracious host and we definitely plan to stay at the Glendeven the next time we are in the Mendocino area.
