My husband and I just completed a 8 day trip to Northern Ca. The Glendeven Inn was by far our most enjoyable stop. We spent 3 nights in Etta's Suite reading her diary going back to the 1880's, taking hikes through the Redwoods, horesback riding on the beaches of the Pacific Ocean and our accomodations were outstanding. Breakfast served in our suite was delicious and far better than breakfast at the Ritz in Half Moon Bay. Our farm-to-table experience was delightful. It was a great mix of three couples from England, the south and the northeast. Great fun. We will be back!

Room Tip: Pick Etta's Suite just to read her diary by the roaring fire, wake up to the view of the Ocean a...

Glendeven is a beautiful inn: historic buildings, lovely gardens, view of the stunning North coast, and great amenities. You can watch llamas (instead of TV), go on great hikes and spend time in Mendocino. The food's good, the owner and staff very attentive, and this time we loved just holing up in our room with a fire. AND the bed was sooooo comfy!

Room Tip: We've stayed in all the rooms in the Farmhouse. Our favorite is Bay View, but they're all q...

Hubby and I went for a romantic getaway. The grounds are beautiful, llamas and chickens. They give you chicken food in a cute little bag so you can indulge your farmer fantasies. Bed was perfect. My complaint is only the farm-to-table dinner. It was presented beautifully but the food was skimpy and not as excellent as would merit such treatment. And the next morning the staff did not clean up the room and refresh the coffee. So that put me out of sorts as well.
And...all three mornings the main egg dish was served in a ramekin. That was ok for souffle on day 1, but on day 2 it was almost the same (they added mushrooms this time) and on day 3 it was a poached egg in tomato and zucchini. My husband loved it but my egg was almost raw and too soupy for me to eat.

Thanks for taking the time to review Glendeven. We appreciate every opportunity to improve. We're so glad this guest enjoyed the farm aspect of the inn and the room's bed.

Regarding our Farm-to-table dinners, the menu is new and different each week, and portion size is something we all take very seriously -- we want to balance the idea of guests feeling "just right" by the end of the four course meal with the true sense of value for the price. We all will continue to watch this, and do appreciate the feedback. For future dinner guests, know that Chef Patrick always sends out a few small taste plates beside what is listed on the menu, and by the time dessert is done, we want folks to walk away feeling satisfied for sure.

Regarding the note about cleaning the room and coffee, this guest refers to the dining room, not their lodging room. We offer daily housekeeping services and remake wood fireplaces each day. The comment was regarding the dining room. On this particular night, dinner guests were having such a nice time that they stayed in the dining room long after staff left for the night, and there were coffee cups left overnight on the dining table that were cleaned up in the morning and the fresh coffee grounds for our French Presses had been used up as well. All was refreshed and cleaned when the breakfast chef arrived.

And finally, regarding breakfasts, we find that ramekins are the best way to keep the farm-egg dishes that we deliver to guest rooms hot. It's a practice that's been in place for over 30 years and it works great.

We rotate the egg dish daily between soufflés, quiche-type dishes, baked egg dishes and even do an occasional scramble with veggies taking advantage of our amazing eggs from our chickens -- we like to highlight the eggs in different ways.

To give future guests a fair idea of our menus and egg dishes, I'll write the menu during this particular guest's stay, which always includes fresh squeezed organic orange juice and coffee and tea selections:

Day 1: Organic Granny Smith apple crisp, our popular Glendeven-garden spinach souffle (taken from Margaret Fox' s "Breakfast Food" cookbook), and homemade water bagels.

Day 2: Fresh fruit medley with berries, Mediterranean quiche with sundried tomatoes, mushrooms, and our own garden vegetables, and homemade orange-cranberry scones

Day 3: Baked local peaches with a topping of wild berries and anise-hyssop from our garden, our own zucchini-wrapped baked farm-egg in organic homemade tomato sauce, cheddar scones using rosemary also from our garden.

Thanks for taking the time to read this long post. We want to be sure you know we care, that we listen, and also know the level to which we aspire to make your experiences with Glendeven as good as they can possibly be.

We hope to see you soon, John

A wonderful, quaint place to stay. We were welcomed with wine at check-in and a friendly cat. Enjoyed a beautiful room with a view, walking the grounds and acquainting ourselves with the chickens, ducks and llamas, a delicious dinner with wine pairing with other guests and exploring the walking paths across the road with deer and great views of the ocean. Did not want to leave after our brief one night stay, especially after having a tasty homemade breakfast in our Briar Rose room. Stayed here on a trip down the coast from Seattle and wish we had more time to enjoy it! We will be back again!

Room Tip: Briar Rose room - has good view and a beautiful fireplace for cool Nov. evening. Very spacious room...

The owner , John is very "hands on and will help with any request'

The Happy Hour was a meal in itself .

No place compares to Glendeven Inn. This place truly is in a class by itself. My wife and I have been to some pretty good places but have never experienced the personal care we received from the owners and staff at Glendeven Inn. We fed the chickens (they give you a small bag of feed) and John let us feed the llamas with him in the evening.
We stayed at the Beach Trail Mendocino Cottage and it was amazing. The trail right across the lane to the beach winds through a big patch of wild fuchsias with more hummingbirds than we have ever seen in one place. It's so cool!
What an amazing way to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. Glendeven will always have a special place in our hearts.

My husband and I had such a great time at the Glendeven Inn that we changed our plans and came back to Mendocino early so we could stay another night here. My husband joked that John and staff must walk around scrutinizing every little detail saying, "How can we make this better?" and then make it better.

Rooms: We stayed in the Garret and East Farmington rooms, both of which were gorgeous, clean, and had tons of natural light. We really enjoyed the East Farmington Room: the fireplace was stocked with wood and ready to light and the french doors opened onto a private patio overlooking the vegetable garden - a great spot for breakfast and/or a glass of wine from the Wine Bar[n]. Fresh flowers, a little bag of chicken feed, a welcome brownie, and great toiletries were in every room.

Food: We were lucky enough to make the farm to table dinner served in the farmhouse, which we really enjoyed. Service, food, and wine parings were all great. A hot breakfast with a thermos of coffee was brought to our room in a basket. A selection of (amazing!) homemade cookies and biscotti are available around the clock, as was french press coffee if you're up before breakfast. We really enjoyed the complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres at the wine bar[n], and ordered a small selection of cheeses to try.

Grounds: Gorgeous. Enjoyed strolling through the perennial beds, feeding the chickens, watching the llamas, and the walk along the nearby beach with a cup of coffee before breakfast. A previous reviewer complained that the Inn is set just off the road; however, there is very little traffic and the grounds are so large and lushly planted that you feel as if you're tucked away on a (very posh) farm.

Hospitality: Impeccable. Super helpful with nearby dinner reservations, with wine recommendations, and with all the little finished touches that are everywhere you turn your head.

Do yourself a favor and stay here whenever you can.

Room Tip: East Farmington has a wood burning fireplace ready to light and private patio overlooking the garden...
