Okay, so I've stayed here 3 times in 3 years now and it's been consistently outstanding. And I wrote a review last year but felt I should write again because every experience is different. Glendeven is simply a complete package of excellence in my opinion. John is not only a wonderful owner but a wonderful man, a pleasure to talk to. It's got to be all his doing that this place does such a fantastic job - the staff he hires are great, too, but he's the one doing the hiring I'm sure. There are so many little things that are great touches, and any one of them doesn't seem like that big a deal but when you add them all up, it's just a great experience.

We loved the room - this time we stayed in the Garrett instead of the Bayview, to save a little money, and you can ask me directly if you want detailed pros and cons but we were very happy with this room and still got the Glendeven experience in it. Loved the shower, the bed was very comfortable, the selection of bath products was great, you could open the windows a little if you wanted to get some air in (imagine that, it was actually not that cold in October!), and it still had a great view out the little windows.

Now all the other things are also great, and there's still more we haven't done yet. The wine bar(n) is a lot of fun. They have a terrific selection of local wines, and you have the option of going with the complimentary pour or choosing one you pay for, at what I thought was a very reasonable price and just such a nice selection, well thought out. I mean, you can't get this selection at a lot of restaurants nearby. The llamas and chickens are a lot of fun to be with, and the resident cat, Roxy. And John walks his two dogs who are beautiful and you can tell he loves them and is dedicated to them.

Don't forget the delicious breakfast brought to your room every morning. I took pictures of the food, it was both beautiful and delicious. And the treats they have out are delicious (baked goods, usually out in the afternoon). They offer coffee around 7:45 AM I think you can go get your own before they serve you the breakfast. And it's out and available all day - and decaf, too!

And it's clean, and comfortable, housekeeping did a great job of knowing when you're out of the room.

Staff recommendations are great, too. Took them up on the suggestion to eat at Little River Inn in the bar area for a great sunset and it was one of the best sunsets I've EVER seen, and the bar was fun and the food was great and so was the service.

And there's so much to do in this area.

I could go on and on but seriously give me one reason not to stay here and I'll challenge you. And we've stayed in other places in the area and regret not having found Glendeven sooner but just love the experience they create. You really can't go wrong.

Room Tip: Send me a message for details. We love the Bayview like everyone else but saved a little money on t...

When my wife and I were planning a west coast trip, friends suggested that we visit Mendocino. I found a recent "36 Hours in..." at nytimes.com and they highly recommended Glendeven. Now we know why.

We just spent two nights there and couldn't have been more pleased. Terrific place, large rooms, very helpful staff, hot b'fast brought to your room, free wine tasting with apps each afternoon, and coffee and home-baked goodies available 24-hrs. I fell hard for the chocolate-oatmeal ones.

I also highly recommend you visit Montgomery Woods State Park for their spectacular Redwoods. It's a 30-mile drive and takes roughly 45 mins to get there due to the very winding road. Well worth it.

This is a well maintained property that encourages a stroll or two and it is only two miles to Mendocino. Along the way, there are beautiful views. We stayed in the carriage house suite and really like the room. The lighting needed some improvement, but when we mentioned it to the inn owner John, upon our departure, he immediatley agreed and told us of his fix for the problem. We loved the bed, it was very comfortable. The bath was huge with as great shower and wonderful toiletries.
We signed up for the meal they serve there and were so surprised of how great it was. We also loved the wine pairings. Hats off to the server Lauren and the chef Patrick.
Housekeeping fell short on a couple of items but when we addressed this with John, he assured us and said he would address the problem.
We experienced a less than warm reception on a very rainy Saturday night. We also addressed this with John who was very gracious and tried to make amends.
This all showed us the owners desire to address problems and the desire for a better inn, therefor a better stay. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: The carriage house had a TV and was very spacious. Had its own parking spot.

From the view from the window, the breakfast, the evening cocktail hour, everything was perfectly done. Going back this year.

Room Tip: If you don't mind the stairs, choose a higher room looking at to the ocean.

We took a nine day trip from San Francisco to Mendocino and on to Sonoma. We stayed at the Palomar in SF which was great and other fine places, but Glendeven was by far the best place we stayed (and also one of the less expensive with their 3 day discount offered at the time). Glendeven struck the perfect balance of service and privacy. The staff who were kind and engaging offered help to the extent needed. Most outstanding was the beauty of the grounds, the care given to the details (the breakfasts are perfect), the fireplace in the room - ready to go each night and more wood available at all times right in and outside the room, insanely soft sheets, the wine bar[n] with great wines and knowledgeable people, llamas and chickens (and feed if you are so inclined) the setting and on and on and on! This is not a typical B & B with a shared space - it is very private. If you can't relax here, then you really can't relax! Although some complained about the ocean view not being more like ocean front, the long views over the meadows are truly amazing - we loved the serenity. We were in the room called East Farmington, apparently smaller than others, but it was a large room with a large bathroom and fireplace plus it has a small porch overlooking the gardens to the sea! Breakfast there each morning was the perfect way to start the day. If I had to find a complaint about Glendeven it would be only that I would have liked coffee available earlier in the morning and that the breakfast which was delivered at 9 was a bit late. But that just made us slow down a bit - not a bad thing. Stay here, it's really lovely. We hope to be back!

Room Tip: Chose a room with a view and a fireplace

We spent 3 nights in the Eastlin Suite. Lovely large bedroom with several windows, large sitting room with a fireplace, and an outdoor porch that overlooked the grounds, the low key llamas, and beyond out to the sea. We turned on the fireplace each morning to take off the chill, just delightful. Bedding was so comfortable, pillows were fluffy and numerous. We slept like babies, not a sound at night. The bathroom is quite small, and everything in it worked just fine. Breakfast is brought in at 9 through the "secret bookcase" right from the kitchen, and what a breakfast it is! Something different and creative daily, hot cooked egg dish, along with breads and fruit and fresh squeezed juice. We did have dinner at the Inn, the Farmhouse table. It was superb and beautifully presented, the experience is highly recommended. Each course was paired with wine, and we had a nice group of guests to share the meal with. The grounds are lovely and it is nice to walk the many paths around the inn. Historic Mendocino is just a few minutes away, quaint and fun for shopping and walking. The vineyards are not far, you can visit a half dozen in a day. Only the upper end vineyards will charge for a tasting, nearly all are free and enjoyable. There are so many outdoor activities depending on the time of year, you can fill your days up, or do nothing at all. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There seemed to always be someone available in the office if you needed anything. We did not miss a TV or radio at all, too much nature to enjoy. The resident chickens are quite beautiful, too.

Room Tip: be sure to look at the pictures online, the rooms are all very different.

My husband and I just completed a 8 day trip to Northern Ca. The Glendeven Inn was by far our most enjoyable stop. We spent 3 nights in Etta's Suite reading her diary going back to the 1880's, taking hikes through the Redwoods, horesback riding on the beaches of the Pacific Ocean and our accomodations were outstanding. Breakfast served in our suite was delicious and far better than breakfast at the Ritz in Half Moon Bay. Our farm-to-table experience was delightful. It was a great mix of three couples from England, the south and the northeast. Great fun. We will be back!

Room Tip: Pick Etta's Suite just to read her diary by the roaring fire, wake up to the view of the Ocean a...
