“It's a gem!”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

On our trip up the California Coast, we stopped for our first visit to Andiron Seaside Inn and loved it! Each of the cabins have a different theme inside. The cabins themselves feel very spacious, with tall ceilings and sitting areas. The bathroom was cold but cute. Our host was very gracious and answered our questions with good information about the area. What a nice place to start our trip up the beautiful coast of California.

Looking for some quiet R and R not far from the action?
Then head to the Andiron where Scott and Madeline (and their goats, Peanut Butter
and Jelly) preside over a group of cottages, each individually decorated with delightful
Items from the past reflecting the name of the cottage. We stayed in MAKE and were
greeted with a knitting basket filled with needles and yarn which previous guests
have added onto. On the wall is a paint by number picture, drawn by Scott, that you
are invited to add onto with the brushes and small jars of paint furnished. The furniture
Is period and everything blends together perfectly. However, modern touches are
not neglected. The bathroom is nicely remodeled and EO bath products are furnished
for your enjoyment with wonderful scents such as lavender. Weekends find a toaster
bar in the reception area for breakfast with piping hot coffee...a variety of delicious
breads and bagels with butter, jellies, honey, apple butter and lemon curd. Happy hour
finds wines and snacks such as fondue with mushrooms and apples, pretzels withi
mustards, etc. There is an outdoor hot tub under the trees and a fire pit where
marshmallows wait to be roasted. Many rooms have fireplaces. So what are you
waiting for? Sink into their fluffy queen size beds and enjoy!

Room Tip: Check out the rooms on their Internet site.

We stayed here for one night on our road trip from Seattle to Las Vegas and it was great! The staff was super nice and the cabin was adorable. We stayed in the curious cabin which had the most comfortable bed, an awesome fireplace and a deck where we sat out and enjoyed some wine and the stars. They also have a wonderful hot tub in the woods. I would highly recommend it and will definitely be back for another stay!

We had a two week holiday, staying in around 5 different hotels/inns/b&b's but by far the Andiron was the best placed we stayed. Our room (read room) was beautifully presented, small but so cosy with a lovely wood burner which we definitely made the most of. It had a small kitchen where we could make our own dinners, had coffee beans to grind and small table to eat at. The owners have thought of everything to make this place as beautiful and warm as it is and they were so friendly and helpful. We read about the Andiron in the lonely planet and I would highly recommend people staying here. A short walk away is a private beach and a short drive away is Mendocino which has lovely shops, beautiful views and a good beach.

Before we left we explained that we wanted to go wine tasting and the owner gave us his personal recommendations but also some other winery's that he knew good things about. Just so helpful.

Well worth a night or two in this place.

Stayed here for two nights in early September - booked because it looked fun and was a great location for our road-trip from San Francisco up to Seattle.

Definitely one of the best places we stayed. Beautiful location, lovely room.
Great base to visit the surrounding areas and Mendoccino.

Really nice vibe at the place, which was beautifully quiet and the proximity of the main road at the bottom wasn't a problem as some other reviewers may have suggested. We were visited each night by some beautiful Elk feeding in the evening sun.

Would love to stay again.

Our family of 3 stayed in Read/ Write and ZOMG it was awesome. Super comfy beds, nice hot tub, fun decor ( and not that awful pseudo- victorian crap), sense of humor and quiet. We got food from the store and had a great breakfast when we wanted to! AND they left us with coffee beans to grind. We'll be back!

The rooms are nice, clean, host was very helpful and fun to talk to. The "toast and jam" breakfast was a great experience. The two goats on the property were fun for the kids to see.
However, the "meadow" the website mentions is just dead, dry closely mowed grass. But, a good place for the price.

Room Tip: This is just a down-home type place with no frills. But a good value for the money. Most rooms are...
