“Have to admit, I didn't actually sleep in Shangri La”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2014

I was supposed to stay here for a 5 night stay, but ended up spending about 30 minutes in the Shangri-La cottage and had to leave. It was not up to the standards I expect at this price point, I had just spent a week at a house near Jenner that had not one blemish or moldy spot even though it was 30+ years old. What this property lacks is maintenance! Obviously no investment is being done to improve the property, the refrigerator is probably the newest item on the property, but it is so cheap it sounds like a 1978 Vega.

After informing the management we would not be able to stay 5 nights here our entire deposit and all rental charges were refunded! Major cudos to Inn at Schoolhouse Creek! I know they are the managers, but the owners of Shangri La MUST bring their properties up to the level of the rest of the inn.

The onsite accommodations do look very nice and clean, but the satellite properties are a different story and must be updated. The leather sofa had coffee and food spots on it, should be dealt with in a cursory cleaning of the property, the owner uses cheap steel nails instead of stainless nail so every wood piece has rust stains, the aluminum frames for the windows are corroded and moldy (anodized, hello??) and hadn't been cleaned because there were dead bugs that died instead of living in this cottage. I could go on, but it would be like beating a dead horse.

This is one to miss if you enjoy a touch of luxury with a fantastic view. If you don't mind a bit of squalor with a good view this is a great choice.

See my photos before you make a reservation! This property needs serious attention, I have more photos if people want them.

Room Tip: The only redeeming feature is the view, if you are sensitive to mold you'll want to pass on this...

These little cottages and rooms are cute, convenient, and perfect for the weekend getaway. Attended a destination wedding here and there were NO complaints! Large tent to keep the wind off, great food, excellent drinks, everything you could ask for.

Room Tip: Whale Watch room is beautiful, but be warned - when the sun comes up the room lightens up!

This is a wonderful inn/B&B. We had our own mini cottage. This place is great location and you can see the ocean from your window. The quality of the room met our expectations and we were happy to pay the price for the quality of the room. I added an extra night in short advance and they made it very easy to check in and find a room based on our needs. It is quiet, quaint, and well cleaned and updated. The food in the restaurant is terrific and the staff was more than helpful. We wanted to stay longer! This place is a gem! We will be back for sure!

we stayed in the Pomo Cottage for four nights....it has a bedroom, fenced back yard, and a private hot tub. Location of this inn is right above Hwy 1, below Mendocino.....our cottage was toward the back, very quiet. Cost of stay included breakfast, which was phenomenal....location was built in the 1800's, and the owners have kept the old time charm, ie, not brand new door/windows, etc, but very clean and we were real comfortable.....one problem with Pomo is that it had a non-level floor....be careful if drinking.....it had full kitchen, and hosts were welcoming with wine, dog dishes and towels. Bed very comfortable....grounds lovely, with wildflowers, chipmunks, bunnies, and lots of birds.

Room Tip: only was in our cottage, but some of the others looked real interesting....units at the front of pro...

We stayed in the Van Damme room. At first, i was disappointed with the road noise and view to the ocean obstructed by the power wires. But after a little while we didn't notice the wires, enjoyed the sunsets and had a great quiet, peaceful sleep. The front desk was very helpful with great guides for things to do in the area especially hikes. The unit was originally built for the motel traffic in the 50's. Amenities are not 5 star resort but the grounds are very peaceful. We took advantage of the hot tub. Being 10 minutes from Mendocino was no problem as the view coming back to the Inn was unbelievable.

First time visiting Mendocino area and couldn't have stayed at a better place. Sandy and Rebecca were very helpful and very nice. Our cottage, was super cute. Would definitely stay there again if I ever return to Mendocino area.

We were looking for a dog-friendly place along the Mendocino coast. We wanted to have our own "space" without a connecting door to another guest, and we wanted to be just close enough to Mendocino without being in town. VOILA!! Our cottage was perfection. Rustic charm, gorgeous views, clean, private deck. Our dogs were so happy to lay on the deck and watch the birds. Mendocino was a hop-skip away. The drive was lovely, and it was so nice to leave and come back to our little private slice of heaven. The front desk staff directed us to several great restaurants, and their in-house breakfast is delicious. Our only disappointment was waiting to order breakfast on our second day!! We missed out on day one. Bed was soft and cozy. Since they provide sheets for all the furniture, we were able to snuggle with our dogs each night. Highly recommend, and we're already booking our next visit.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, but don't overlook the garden view rooms in favor of an ocean view. T...
