Overall, a great experience. The room had a very clean aesthetic with a rattan-like floor, pedestal sinks in the bathroom, a wonderful rainfall shower, fireplace, very comfortable king bed with a killer view of the ocean. And an HDTV with actual HD signal as opposed to many hotels that give you a great TV with a low-def signal. Wi-fi worked pretty well in our room. The grounds and views are great with room to roam. Many of the buildings are still under renovation but looks like they are doing a good job. Included breakfast was decent (fresh fruit - not just apples and oranges, breads, rolls, scones, bagels, yogurt, high-end granola, OJ, coffee and tea) but it was strange that they had already toasted the bagels and cinnamon bread so they were dry and room-temp. Need a toaster to go along with the view! Only minor complaint was the check-in. We stopped by earlier on the outside chance our room was ready, which it was not. We were told to come back at 3:30. When we arrived at about 3:45 we got a mini-lecture about the 4 o'clock check-in time (when others were checking-in ahead of us) and then when the person checked with housekeeping, our room was still being cleaned. So we got in around 4:30. Hopefully the check-in staff will refine their customer service as they get more experience. All in all though, a great stay.

All I can say is that my wife and I were blown away by the Heritage House. We decided to spend a few days on the Mendocino coast and picked this place because it had some nice reviews. Wow, we were glad we did!

The greatest thing about our stay was our room. Without a doubt, it was one of the nicest rooms we have stayed in (and we have stayed in a lot of places around the world). We are what would be considered "value" travelers, meaning we try to get the most value for the price (not high end, not low end). And boy, did we get our bang for the buck! We stayed in Vista 6, and it had a spacious living room with fireplace and giant sliding door with a great view of the coast. The kitchen was a full gourmet kitchen complete with Viking 6-burner range (not that we used it!) and soft-close cabinets. The whole room is about 1,000 square feet so it was very spacious.

The bedroom/bathroom were the most amazing highlights. The bedroom had a view of the cost from both the west and the north (with a sliding door to the massive deck on the west and 4 large windows facing the coast to the north). It was amazing to watch the sunset in the evening and arise in the morning to a nearly panoramic view of the ocean. There was another fireplace and TV in the bedroom so that was a nice touch. The bathroom had both a shower and a 2-person jacuzzi tub, all with wall to windows facing the ocean. It was pretty cool being able to sit in the jacuzzi while viewing the ocean right outside the window. (The only thing that was a little strange was that there were no window treatments so there were possible privacy issues. They just opened up this room a week ago and still have some finishing touches to put on it, so they may be adding some shutters or something in the days to come.)

As for other comments, the front desk was friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast is very good with fruits, yogurt, cereal and some delicious, freshly-baked pastries. On our first night, we had dinner at the 5200 restaurant (behind the lobby) and it was very good. The service and ambiance were both great. The only bummer is that we ate later at night and didn't have much of a view of the ocean since it was dark, but that certainly wasn't their fault.

This place was actually shut down for 5 years and recently re-opened under new ownership. All the rooms are being remodeled, and the project is about 25% done. Thus, we were there without a lot of crowds because the resort is not at full capacity. Obviously there will be more people walking around when all the rooms are available, but the resort will still be fantastic. We are definitely planning on coming back in the future. Overall, an AWESOME stay at the Heritage House!

Room Tip: It seems like most of the rooms have a direct view of the ocean. The Vista and Carousel rooms have the best views in my opinion.

Couples everywhere are fortunate that this delightful resort is once again welcoming guests after a 6 year long absence. Situated on a magnificent bluff overlooking the Pacific, this is a most romantic getaway for couples needing alone time. Strolls along the cliff, wine in the gazebo and the sound of the ocean lulling you to sleep. Martinis in the bar are also damn good!

Treat yourselves..we all deserve this experience at least once.

My husband and I just got back from 3 days at the newly renovated Heritage House in Little River. While the place isn't finished and there are a few kinks to work out, we have nothing but great things to say. First Brittany and Jason greeted us and made us feel at home even though our room wasn't ready yet. It seems they were sold out for the weekend and people were slow checking out. It was worth the wait. Our Room #41 was divine. Deck, big screen TV, Cable, fireplace, heated bathroom floor, gorgeous jetted shower, very nice mini-kitchen with new microwave, small refrigerator, cups, glasses, coffee pot plus a raised bedroom that gave you a view of the water from your bed. WiFi is available but being in that area, the service wasn't 100%, but that was expected.

While only breakfast and dinner is currently offered (kitchen renovation isn't complete), I can tell you that the dinner created by the new French Chef was fabulous. Had guests stop by and we had top sirloin, pheasant, mushroom risotto but the biggest surprise was the "lobster mac and cheese". Don't let the name fool you...it is top of the line and nothing like what you expect. Each and every one of us loved our meals...nary a complaint. And special thanks to Kate, our wonderful waitress

I can't wait to return..............it will be well worth it.

SUGGESTION...if you aren't in a hurry and are heading back to San Francisco, take route 1 instead of cutting over to 101. Very similar to the Carmel, Big Sur area on route 1, but fun going to Jenner and Gualala.

Room Tip: Rooms 40-41 are closest to reception but with simple zoom lens had no problem seeing the ocean clearly....and also saw 3 whales...

By far the most beautiful coastal setting I have experienced. The California Coast has many beautiful locations, but this place tops them all. Our room had a panoramic view of the ocean. We saw whales spouting from the outdoor deck of the room! The resort grounds were wonderfully maintained. This place is just getting started again after being closed for 5 years. So there were some bumps in terms of efficiency in the check-in and check-out process. Continental breakfast included fresh baked goods, granola, fresh berries, fresh fruits and good coffee. Boxed cereals for those who like that. Dinner was superb, tasty with hearty portions. Wine list could use some additions. Overall, a superb experience and a great value in this starting up phase. Get in now, because this place will soon be very difficult to book--it's a gem!

Room Tip: Go for the best view available.
