“A Welcome Return”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

After several years of ups and downs we were pleased and excited to spend a night at Heritage House...in the same cabin that we spend out honeymoon 40 years ago! While still under construction...it is clear that the new owner is retaining some of the old charm while bringing the resort into the 21st century. The staff could not have been more friendly....the room was wonderful, and the property speaks for itself. We are anxious to reacquaint ourselves with a destination where we visited 6-7 times in the 70's and early 80's, and have put this back on our list as a must go to place in the coming years ahead. Congratulations to the new Heritage House, and thank you for the wonderful stay.

We frequently stayed at Heritage House in the 1970s and 1980s and were so sorry to see it decline and close. We are thrilled that the resort has reopened and is being restored. It is one of the premier properties on the northern California Coast. The resort is still under construction, but this bothered us very little. We were in the greenwood section in an end unit and it is the quietest place we have been in awhile. The view is spectacular and we could hear the ocean, but no traffic.
We enjoyed the continental breakfast of fruit, cereal, breads and rolls that is offered in the main lodge on weekdays.
We had dinner in the lounge. The food was delicious and the service excellent.
The resort is located on 37 acres and the grounds are well kept, mostly with native plants.
They seem to be operating with a small staff and most people appear to be doing more than one job for the time being. All the staff we encountered from the gardeners and housekeeping people to the waitress and bus boy were extremely friendly and accommodating. (And working very hard.)
We couldn't get Verizon cell service, but you can call anywhere on your room phone at no charge.
If you are planning to visit from another part of the country, remember the best weather on the northern California coast is in the spring and fall. Summer can be nice, but when it heats up inland, the coast becomes foggy.
Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room away from the present construction. They were very helpful in telling about t...

Susan and I stayed at The Heritage Houses...for our first time...two nights in early March. In summary, we plan to return 'same time next year'! The accommodations and views were outstanding. As was the full range of weather...which we enjoyed whether sunny and clear...overcast and foggy...or rainy and windy. The latter was extra special because we played gin and dined in front of the real-wood burning fireplace near the bar. We watched the ocean swells while either bundled up and walking the property or sitting in our cozy fully-updated and 5-star room. The proximity to Mendocino and other fine-dining experiences all made the trip special and memory laden. We will be back...

The Heritage House Resort has been one of our favorites to stay for its stunning views of coast and delicious dinners. We also like the easy walk on the property to watch tides crashing, birds, wild flowers and gardens. The staff at the front desk and restaurant are very friendly. The location is also close to multiple state parks and Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden for hiking and photography.

It's wonderful that the new owner is renovating this beautiful place.. Hopefully KQED channel will be available as one of TV channels for the guests once the renovation is complete.

My fiancé stayed at The Heritage House to celebrate my friend’s 30th birthday! We loved everything about The Heritage House and they gave my friend a room with a fantastic view!! It looks like all of the rooms have wonderful views and are able to enjoy the ocean from your deck while sipping on lovely Anderson Valley wines. The Heritage House reopened in September 2013 and they are still finishing the remodel but as long as you go with those expectations you will not be disappointed. Our room was very spacious, had comfortable bedding with a large bathroom and a fireplace. The staff was great and very welcoming. We did not eat at the restaurant on site but would like to try it the next time we stay. We had a wonderful weekend and we will definitely be back and stay at The Heritage House without hesitation. We are so glad it is open again and we are able to make memories by the sea.

How happy we were to discover that one of our favorite places in the world is as lovely and special as it ever was. None of the many improvements has affected its original charm. We are thrilled it is open again! Looking forward to the reopening of the Same Time Next Year cottage, as we strayed there about 10 years ago.
