A nice place in a tri valley area where you will pass some nice vineyards along the way heading to the park. A nice drive of 1 1/2 hours from SF. The parking fee for the park is $6 no in & out privilege. They accept visa, debit and mastercard as well as cash. I suggest carry cash as I was told the machine breaks all the time. A nice place to go for biking, hking, camping, swimming, fishing and b b q'ing. A good place for single, couple, and family traveller.

We explored the northern part of this park on a holiday morning. The main trail is wide and well maintained. It's a bit steep at the beginning and mostly in the open, so wear sturdy shoes and carry water. There are lots of narrow side trails to explore, some with more shade and some that are quite steep. Take these for a shadier and more solitary hike.

Dogs are welcome (on leashes) and plentiful, so beware if you don't like dogs! Be cautious taking your dog on a hot day, however. When we were there the ranger was having to rescue a dog who couldn't make it back to the parking lot.

I love this location as you feel as though you've traveled far, but it's a local spot. When the lake levels are up and it's not too hot, this is a great place to go. For hiking, I recommend the trail on the back side of the lake near the dam. It's off of Arroyo Rd past Wente Winery. It's a butt buster of a hill, but a great place to hike with your dog (off leash allowed).

This is a very nice campground that is close to home. The sites are well spaced and secluded. They have just added full hook ups. It's a nice campground to visit in the winter. Summer is extremely hard to get in on the weekends so we don't bother trying. They use the reserve America reservation system which seems to always leave empty spaces. I'll never understand that.

Just drive a little out of town passing wineyards and you are in the lovely hills of Livermore. Hiking is not too hard here, and the scenery is beautifull with the soft round old hills. the whole atmosphere is lovely. you will find old walnuttrees and see mistletoe hanging in abundance.
