We walked in and were seated promptly by a pleasant young man who took our order and warned us about the "exotic" flavours in the Prahak Kteih. This was a plate of the freshest raw veggies accompanied by a melange of Ground pork and spices with kaffir leaf, coconut, tamarind and picled fish: the last being the "exotic" flavour. This alone was worth any price one would expect to pay, but only cost US $9. The taste of each of the dishes we had were tryly inspiring. When I get home my mission will be to cook a passable Prahak Ktieh.

Pleasantly surprised when we walked in and a jazz quartet was playing! Nice menu, with reasonable prices, service and food were good and food was nicely presented.

We had a late lunch at Sophy's and enjoyed every aspect of the meal.

The restaurant was packed when we were there but the service was attentive and gracious. The menu is huge -- it's tough to make a decision. Sophy's was clean.

The prices are reasonable with most dishes in the $8-$10 range.

We had stir-fried char kroeung, the beef jerky with a great vinegar-garlic sauce, a papaya salad and a rice noodle dish. Each one was better than the next. Let's just say we had plenty of food. When one of the waitresses saw us struggling a bit with the beef jerky she came over and explained the proper way to eat it (by pulling off bite-size strips from the flank steak). The owner later came over and explained how they make this signature dish.

Chet, one of the owners, loves to chat. He would circulate and talk to guests or bus tables as needed. You have to respect that in an owner -- not afraid to do the work.

Sophy's is highly recommended.

Sophy's Cambodian and Thai Cuisine has been in Long Beach for 13 years and came highly recommended by Long Beach locals, so we had to try this restaurant for dinner. We were really glad we did.

Food is made fresh daily and portions are generous. We ordered two different stir-fry entrees which featured the protein of our choice - beef, chicken, pork or shrimp - and plenty of fresh vegetables. Sauces are home-made, and for dessert we chose fried bananas with red bean ice cream, which were outstanding! We also sampled the green tea ice cream, which was also delicious.

Sophy, the owner, herself brought out our dessert and waited on guests throughout dinner, and she was extremely gracious and friendly and thanked us for coming in. She answered questions guests had about the food and the area. She told us she took the evening out of the kitchen so she could be on the floor with her guests.

We would definitely return to Sophy's to eat again and won't hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking delicious fresh Cambodian/Thai cuisine in Long Beach.
