“Great Service”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

This place is incredible. Every person we came in contact with was kind and asked if we needed anything. Andrew was a great reflection of the place. The service here is how every hotel should be run. The restaurant has outstanding food and the view looks out to see the Queen Mary. Amazing overall experience.

We stayed here whilst on a month road trip around America. We booked this hotel as we wanted a rest stop for a day in which we could have a relaxing day in the hotel and around the pool.

We arrived and paid the parking for the day, which for the price of the rooms is a little disgusting as you have no other choice as the hotel is in a quiet location. We then booked into our room in block 1, the room itself was a good size and clean, but nothing special for the upgrade price we paid. There are a few coffee capsules to use but you have to pay for any extra you require. Outside the room in the block lobby we spotted old q tips and cigarette butts etc around the sparce planting, something that you think would have been picked up by housekeeping.

We got ready to go to the pool area and I think is where our main disappointment started. We had a note in the room to say a few areas of the hotel would not be available for 2-3 hours because there was a few weddings happening that day. We thought we would have time at the pool and then use the fire pits etc later on. We enjoyed our time at the pool and headed back to our room but found that the weddings were still in areas and felt that we were in the way a little as speeches and photos took place whilst we walked past.

We decided to head into long beach itself for food instead of staying at the hotel. There was a free bus service which was great. We came back to the hotel around 10.30 and all the chairs for the weddings were still set out in the communal areas so decided to go back to our room. On going to bed the music was still playing til around 12.30, and unfortunately one guest had a very vocal argument outside our balcony door and inside the block. We realise the argument is not anything to do with the hotel but think that the hotel, especially as we stayed on a Saturday was set up for weddings and other guests fell short.

The location is great if you wish to relax, but with an area especially for guests not attending the weddings would improve things.

Room Tip: Higher rooms may be quieter away from guests on waterfront. coke vending machine hidden round th...

We’re very sorry for the noise from events you encountered during your stay at our hotel. Your comfort and safety is our number one concern, and we appreciate that you brought this to our attention. Your review will help us correct similar issues in the future. We do have 6 fire pits throughout the property including one at the pool so that there are always Fire pits available even during functions at the beach. We hope that the next time you’re in the area, you’ll consider staying with us again so that we have the opportunity to make it right for you..

Do not let this hotel's website fool you. It looks like it is all Zen and relaxing. How relaxing your trip will be very dependent on your room, the events going on at the hotel, and how many bachelor parties are going on.

I booked this hotel with the intent of a relaxing weekend in Long Beach, but it has turned out to be nothing but. The property has been extensively renovated, however the walls are still thin, the doors do not block the noise from outside, and the beds could stand to be replaced. My a/c unit was one of those 1970s classic "push button/dial from cool-to-hot" whereas every renovated hotel these days actually has a thermostat. If you are here on a Saturday, they have a horrible reggae musician who plays by the pool all afternoon as "entertainment." I was "lucky" enough to get a room on the ground floor opposite the elevator, so I get to hear all the drunk people loudly coming back to their rooms all evening long.

Parking is a nightmare, and is not worth the $22 they charge you. There are several dead-ends in the parking lot which require you to reverse or make multi-point turns in order to find your way around. Heaven forbid your room key goes bad, you won't be able to get in-or-out of the parking lot.

I took a chance staying here because I thought being right on the water and a nice outdoor pool would be worth being out of downtown Long Beach. It isn't. I'm sure if you are here for an event at the hotel - a conference, a wedding, etc - it is fantastic. The service is actually very good, the rooms are clean, and it is pretty self-contained. I would strongly recommend you NOT stay here if you're not part of an event, however.

Room Tip: Building 1 appears to have the best parking and is away from the noise of the "Esplanade"...

We’re sorry we didn’t provide the high quality of services you deserve and expected. This is not typical of our hotel and staff, and we apologize that you felt in any way uncomfortable as the wedding event was going on. We try to make each guest experience a great one at our hotel as your satisfaction is important to us. Thank you again for your feedback and we hope you’ll give us another opportunity to make it right.

We just returned from a three night stay at this property, which we chose based on its location and the Doubletree/Hilton brand reputation. The hotel is older, but DT/Hilton has done a fine job of updating the look and grounds of the hotel. Staff is uniformly friendly and helpful. Andrew at the front desk facilitated our room change with professionalism, efficiency and humor. The hotel's design takes advantage of its harborside location; all rooms have some percentage of water view. The "Playa" is an outdoor sandy area with lounge chair seating around fire pits. It was a lovely place to be at dusk. There is a walking path by the water and you can hoof it down to the Queen Mary, within sight of the Maya, should you choose. A water taxi will whisk you across the harbor to shopping/dining/movies and a stop for the free LB shuttle is adjacent to the property. It's true that the hotel's window unit A/Cs should be replaced with quieter and more efficient models, but ours was functional and did its job. I would happily return here.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor. All rooms have some sort of water view.

We tried out the Hotel Maya on a college tour trip to Southern California. We wanted something waterfront, that didn't necessarily mean beachfront or high-end resort. The Maya is an older property that's had a number of owners. Hilton/Doubletree has done a great job updating the hotel by combining fresh decor and design with the property's Long Beach harborside location. The hotel is designed so that all rooms have some percentage of water view. The Maya is easy to navigate, well-maintained, quiet and easy on the eyes. The color scheme is festive, the fun "Playa" has lounge chairs grouped around fire pits and the pool/hot tub area is inviting without being overwhelming. The staff is courteous and professional; all with whom I spoke were both kind and helpful in all instances. I would stay here again.

Thanks for the lovely review and we are so glad you liked the hotel and our waterfront setting. You really seemed to connect wth all that makes the hotel special including that we are indeed the lower priced option to Laguna Beach and Santa Monica and several other Socal cities while still offering the wonderful waterfront view and activities all offer.

This hotel was selected for me by my employer. I was pleasantly surprised by the view from my view and the quality of this hidden gem. It's a bit off the beaten path, but has a view of downtown Long Beach and the Queen Mary. Room was nice enough, with unique touches. Some older amenities (blinds were broken), but overall good for the price I paid with my employee benefit. Seemed like a good place for families, but quiet enough for folks who want a get-away. Room service food was good, but over-priced. Out-of-way location made it hard for me to go else-where to eat though. Something to consider if you stay here.

Hotel Maya is perfect for a pre cruise stay if you are cruising from Long Beach. The rooms are large and clean. The front desk, restaurant, and van drivers(for your short trip to the port) are all very nice. You can book a cruise special where you can leave your car for the length of your cruise and they will pick you up at the port upon your return and take you back to your car. We have stayed here twice and will definitely be back.
