“Elegantly wasted”
Reviewed 16 August 2014 via mobile

We stayed overnight in The Queen Mary and it was like stepping back in time to a bygone age.

We had the opportunity of upgrading to a room overlooking the outside for $20 extra but, as we were staying for only a night, decided against this. However, if you are staying for a longer stretch, you may wish to do this so it might be worth holding off booking a more expensive room if you are a bit of a gambler!

If you do stay here, do try to book a table at Winstone's for some old time glamour and delicious haute cuisine.

Also, do try the Ghost tour as you'll get to see areas of the ship that you wouldn't normally see: the swimming pool and the boiler room. (Sadly, we saw no ghosts...)

We stayed on the Queen Mary the first night of our LA vacation and were so happy we did. The ship is filled with beautiful decor including pictures of famous people who stayed on board. Our two highlights were a haunted tour and seeing the display of items from the Royal family, featuring Princess Diana. We also enjoyed dining on board and going into Long Beach to visit the aquarium.

Thank you so much for the feedback and we are so glad you had such a wonderful visit to the World Famous Queen Mary. Princess Di is a great exhibit and our Aquarium/Queen Mary package is the best way to see two Long Beach landmarks for one low price!

QM was good value, clean and safe. It is a long eay from central LA/Hollywood but not impossible. We visited Universal Studios one day by public transport - it needed an early start but it all worked well. QM is an attraction in itself so staying on her was certainly special compared with other motels and hotels. I marked the rooms slightly lower because they were necessarily small (it is a ship after all) and not well sound-proofed.

The Queen Mary, by rights, should be somewhere in England. But it isn't, it's right here where you can get to it in Long Beach, CA. It has been turned into a fun hotel and spending at least one night is de rigueur. There is plenty to see on board and one night's stay may not be sufficient so plan accordingly. A free shuttle provided by the City of Long Beach will take you from the Queen Mary to a fun shopping area with plenty of restaurants and fun sights, like the Aquarium of the Pacific. And all within sight of the Queen Mary, just so you're certain that it doesn't said off without you! A word of caution, the Queen Mary strives to stay true to its history. The rooms are kept as close to original as possible. I consider this to be classic comfort, and there is plenty to do on the ship so that you most likely won't stay in your room that long. A stay on the Queen Mary is definitely a trip back in time to when civility ruled the day.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are charming. Some rooms are "outer" (with a view of Long Beach) and some...

Not a hotel that affords quiet or privacy. Small rooms with paper thin walls if you have noisy neighbors. Service is mediocre at best. Read the fine print on additional charges. Restaurant options are very limited.

I had an ocean side view room with a king size bed and I didn't get my room until 2 hrs after check in time. It was a birthday present for my husband. And we didn't even get the room I resibed for. Too expensive for a small room. Very unhappy with the service.

The Queen Mary is beautiful and the rooms are very nice. But the walls are a bit thin, and we had very noisy neighbors. We called the front desk at 11:30 to complain, but the loud talking & blaring t.v. continued. At 1:00, we called again and demanded that move us to another room. They were there within 10 minutes and moved us to a new room. Overall, we enjoyed the Queen Mary very much and would definitely go back.
