I'm a Marriott Rewards Platinum - so spend a lot of time in Marriott properties. You expect a lot with from the J W Marriott brand and this property certainly lived up to expectations. Room was spacious with contemporary furnishings. Bathroom large and bright. The meeting/convention facilities are also very impressive - but the Platinum and Diamond ballrooms are quite a hike from the guest elevator. Also, if you are attending a large convention, the elevators are easily overwhelmed by volume during breaks, etc. Obviously, proximity to L.A. Live and Staples Center is a huge - and very convenient - bonus. Definitely a hotel I'd look forward to visiting again.

We booked through the Marriott reservation 800 number. We originally booked a larger room but, upon arrival were offered a smaller less expensive room. This offer worked well for us because we arrived early for the Stanley Cup Finals. GoKingsGo! This wonderful hotel was easy to find and the employees from start to finish treated us like royalty. Our room was nice, modern and had every thing we needed. I personally need a little stronger air conditioning. I was ready for the shower issue ( getting a shower while trying to turn on the shower) :)
If you are attending a sporting event, using this wonderful hotel is the comfortable way to go. You simply use the hotel vallet service and walk to the event which takes only minutes.
During our stay I ordered food from room service which took a very reasonable thrity minutes. The salad and pizza were really tasty .
Thank You to the JW Hotel, Staples Center and the Kings for making our 25 Wedding Anniversary Spectacular .

What a beautiful hotel. I've never been to LA Live and to this part of downtown LA, but this hotel is so well located. The neighborhood has a lot to offer. I was there for a conference but it was so easy to walk around and have some great meals nearby, including our favorite at Rosa Mexicano, right next store (ate there three times!)

This hotel has excellent service and the rooms are beautiful and comfortable. The only downside is the very expensive parking (so try and leave your car at home).

An easy check in process. We were pleased to learn, on check in at 9am, that our room was available. We were less pleased that a king size bed in our room was not available, despite specific advance request. My wife and I had to squeeze onto one of the two three quarter beds which detracted from the experience.

The room was nevertheless good. We had a great view over the pool, the LA Live precinct and The Staples Centre from the 12th floor. A bar fridge (not stocked) was included in the room. The design of the bathroom is modern, but there was no separate shower. The water pressure was quite low so that shower experience wasn't great at all. The swimming pool facilities are good. I never made it to the gym, but I'm told that there are a few good running routes around the hotel.

We visited for a work conference and had a great experience. A definite recommendation for such conferences.

The concierge staff were helpful.

We also had an easy check out process. Although we checked out earlier than required (in order to do further sight seeing in the area), we were able to leave our bags behind which was useful. It is easy to get around from the hotel. There are bus and metro stops nearby and many cabs wait outside the hotel's reception.

There is also a good variety of restaurants around the hotel in the LA Live precinct.

All in all, a good stay in a good part of town.

Going to Staples Center many times a year - it is usually a 50/50 deal as to whether or not you can get a room. When we do - it is an excellent time. Right in the heart of LA Live and a short walk to Staples.

OK, we get it, this property is so perfectly located in downtown LA - a stones throw from the Staples Center and across the street from Nokia Theater - that it's really easy to charge a heck of a lot for a room. BUT, location shouldn't be a reason for charging high-end prices for a somewhat tired and not so high-end property.

The rooms are kinda "plasticy" and worn. For example, the headboards on the beds are made of the kind of fake wood pressboard you find at a Motel 6; and most of the furniture and bathroom amenity holders seem just...well, cheap. And $45 a night for parking? That's NYC rates.

On the other hand, the staff are really nice and the complimentary meals in the concierge room are terrific.

Bottom Line: if this is the part of LA you just HAVE TO be in; then OK, you could stay here. But, don't assume the high price you pay for a room is going to guarantee luxury, cause it won't. Want to spend a lot and get luxury, then stay at the Ritz - connected to the Marriott, and a sister-property - right next door.

My first stay in downtown LA and if you want convenience to Staple Center, Convention Center and Nokia Live! and desire a wide variety of Food and Bar choices, this is the place. The JW sets the standard for service and comfort and their location next to hot attractions tops expectations.

My room was spacious and comfortable and even though I attended a large meeting, the service levels were always and attention from staff never faulted. I even had a chance to eat in the lobby restaurant and again the experience was top drawer.

Again, I highly recommend the JW Marriott, you won't be disappointed.
