“Beautiful Boutique Hotel in the Heart of LA”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

As a regular business traveler, this hotel was one of the best I've had the pleasure of staying in. I discovered this hidden gem by accident, after dining at their adjoining restaurant, Tart, a few weeks ago for Sunday brunch. After having a positive experience at Tart (great food and great service) I decided to book a night at the hotel to celebrate an upcoming anniversary.

From the moment we walked into the hotel we felt welcomed immediately. The lobby was quaint and well situated. We were greeted at the front desk by the receptionist, J'Nai and the resident birds (Hall and Oates). J'nai was very warm and wished us a Happy Anniversary. She expedited our check in, gave us an overview of the hotel, and extended an invitation to the complimentary Whiskey tasting in the lobby later that evening.

We booked the Robin Room, which we later learned is the first newly renovated room at the hotel. The room was absolutely amazing! The floor was made of beautifully polished cement. As soon as we walked in we were met with a large cascading mirror, and we were welcomed by a fruit and cheese platter, a bottle of champagne, and a nice card wishing us a Happy Anniversary. The bathroom mirror included an integrated bluetooth speaker that allowed us to connect our phones and play music. An added bonus! The room was full of unique amenities; a refreshing change from the usual minibar fare.

The whiskey tasting in the hotel lobby was hosted by the restaurant manager, Ashley, who was very nice and made sure our glasses were replenished regularly. Every interaction we had with staff at this hotel was a pleasant one. Each staff member greeted and interacted with us as though we were a VIP. If you are looking for a nice getaway in the heart of LA, you can't go wrong with Farmer's Daughter!!!

Room Tip: Try the renovated Red Robin room and make sure to stop into their adjoining restaurant, Tart, for a...

The Farmer's Daughter is a old property that has been given a major facelift with a difference: New paint and furnishings can only take a place so far, so the FD settled on a rustic theme with a nudge that it's really hipper than all that - and it is. The room was not large, but scrupulously clean, with a comfortable bed, refrigerator, a safe, and desk. The air conditioner was quiet and efficient. The front desk staff were pleasant and welcoming. The small courtyard is a pleasant place to unwind with a drink or a meal from the on-site restaurant, Tart.
Directly across the street is The Farmers' Market, a must visit (with an appetite). Next to that is The Grove, a large open air mall, but a real shopper should explore all the little shops around the hotel on Third, Fairfax, Melrose, and Beverly. And if you enjoy good eating, besides Tart, try some of the locals: BLD, Animal, Son of a Gun, Mozza, Joan's on Third, Mud Hen Tavern... Just start walking and bring an appetite.
A couple of small things kept me from giving The Farmer's Daughter 5 stars: no drawers in the room, so we lived out of our suitcase and the small closet. Valet parking is a bit dear, but was convenient, and every hotel in LA seems to charge for parking.
All in all, this is a nice property in a great location. We'll be back.

This is basically a Spartan-like hotel wrapped in a hip, country like theme. The floors are essentially bare with a few warn rugs thrown in, towels are thin, the room was tired and very basic.
It was not what I was expecting.

Room Tip: Quirky works for some but not for me

Thank you for taking time to write a review.

I am sad you did not like the design of the hotel but I do understand that not everyone will like it, though I hope they do :)

I wish you safe travels and wonderful experiences...

Loved our stay here and wished it was longer. The hotel really pulls of its kitchy country theme. Location was excellent- I was pleasantly surprised at how easy and quick it was to drive here from LAX and then to access the rest of LA. Rooms were impeccable- super clean and tidy and cannot be faulted. Not sure why other people seem to have a problem with the staff- we found then nothing but charming, helpful, cheery and so polite. Loved sitting outside at sunset with a whiskey and a wine. Came back after dinner and sat by the outdoor fire for a nightcap and it was beautiful. My only niggle- I don't agree with the mandatory valet parking charge when the car is parked right outside your room- perhaps a lower daily rate for self drive would be more appropriate for this style of hotel- this is not a 4 or 5 star hotel and the parking is out of line with the client market. Apart from that, we loved our stay and would love to return

A very eclectic friendly atmosphere here , I felt comfortable as soon as I got into hotel . The rooms were pretty basic but very clean and the beds really comfortable , having a fridge in room is always a bonus . The staff here are very attentive and seemed to go that extra mile for people with enquiries or problems . The food in the restaurant TART was beautiful and pretty reasonably priced considering you are in LA .
A great location to see the sites of LA , many of them within walking distance . The Farmers market which is directly across the road is a must visit (delicious fresh food) and the beautiful Grove Shopping Mall . I will be coming back here in the not to distant future .

I really enjoyed this quirky little place. The best thing about it to be honest was the staff who are all extremely helpful and the restaurant Tart was outstanding. This Southern Belle was right at home with black eyed peas and grits in the menu! Yes the rooms are due for a bathroom upgrade but they were large and spotless. The staff were the real strength of this place and I would highly recommend. Great location for walking around and shopping at nearby Farmers market.

Just stayed a Farmer's Daughter for the third time. When it opened, it was a simple but stylish budget boutique hotel. Now, it's just shabby hodge podge with an inexperienced staff. Our room had a dirty jean bedspread, dirty floors. The coffeemaker didn't work. The room AC went On and off every five minutes all night. There's perfume pumped into the rooms- I needed to have the window open always. People were up in the rooms around us until after 2am. If it were still a 'budget' hotel my expectations might be different, but at $250 a night the place should at least be clean. The best thing about the hotel is it's terrific location.

Thank you for your review .

I am sad to read about your experience. I can assure you that this particular experience is far from our expectations.

I am going to get with the staff right away on this to find out why you had spend your entire stay with all these broken pieces, why our maint staff failed to get the items fixed or at a minimum with such continued failure of items why your room was not moved.

I do have to disagree with you when you say " If it was a Budget Hotel it would be ok ". I do not find anything ok about the experience you describe at all and it will get changed immediately...

Safe travels and I do hope you will give us anther chance in the future...
